If you listened to the Velo at CanJam NYC, you also heard the Aero. We had two Velo units - one at LTA's table and one at Meze's - and they were both connected to Aero DACs. :)

They're in the output stage. Sort of like the 12SN7 / 6SN7 tubes in the MicroZOTL. Yes, changing them will affect the sound.

It will look exactly like the Velo, except wider (and no volume control, two fewer tubes). We'll have the Aero in the final case at CanJam NYC this weekend, so look out for photos from there...

FYI, the Aero we're bringing won't be in a case. We're still waiting on those to show up, unfortunately. But you'll be able to get pics of the beautiful insides!

We just added these and other specs to the Aero web page. The output is 2.2 Vrms via RCA, 4.4 Vrms via XLR.

As @obstacleofaffliction suggested, swap each set of tubes and see if the noise changes channels. When/if it does, you've found the culprit. We have a video that demonstrates this process with a full integrated amp, but the process is the same with any tube amp:

Note that this is a pre-production prototype, so it will look quite different when it's released. We had the same DAC with a different build (more compact) at the headphone area at Axpona, for example.

To add one bit of clarification, our DAC to be released sometime next year uses the same R2R chip AudioNote uses in their 6-figure $ DACs. And our DAC, while pricing is still TBD, will be a low 4-figures $ DAC. :)
