Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm sure mum is the word on more details, BUT....I'm genuinely curious what sort of things would make it ULTIMATE? My OG already feels pretty ultimate, I'm wondering what you guys would be looking to improve upon?

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Not being an electrical engineer, I am wondering - are the Odams at play only when the tube buffer is engaged? Or do they influence the passive sound setting as well? Also I've been giving it 12 hrs on/12 hrs off, as I've seen recommended for settling in of the caps. Though when it comes to...

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Really good sound upon initially powering up. Ran for 8 hrs yesterday, and it's been going for 2 hrs so far today. As of about 10 minutes ago I was listening and was struck by how outstanding the sound is. That was the word that just kept coming to mind. Fuller, deeper, more presence, an...

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Success!! I put a couple strips of kapton tape on the bottom of the caps, and ptfe sleeves on the leads. Everything is put back together now and working just fine. Excited to see how the sound develops as the Odams burn in. Thanks again for your input!

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Thanks - I really appreciate your input with this! I wrapped the knob in painters tape for a better grip and gave it what for, and it finally came off. One more question - before I enter solder land, just wanted to double check this is the right orientation for the caps?

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Okay, I'm getting ready to work on this. Everything I read says the first step is to remove the volume knob, which supposedly just slides off. However, I am tugging pretty hard and it isn't budging. I don't want to break anything...is there a trick to it, or an additional step here unique to the...

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Thanks for that - I will likely give it a go! The Saga does sound really good as is. I can only imagine how much better it could be with the Odams. Originally I started way back with Saga OG, but then moved to a Freya+ to drive dual Aegirs. I ultimately decided I preferred the single Aegir, but...

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

I know this is a Freya thread, but just wondered if anyone has done this cap upgrade to a Saga? I'm a believer in ODAMs, based on experience, not taken on faith... Wondering if it would be worthwhile upgrade though for Saga?

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Don't fix it quite yet, I'm almost at the end! Will he destroy the ring or not?? Don't pull the plug on my AI read!!

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Before switching to Tyrs, I had "settled" on a single Aegir. I say settled in quotes because the single Aegir in my system beat out Van Alstine Monos costing 3.5X more than the Aegir, and a Pass XA 30.8 which cost 8.5X more than the Aegir. So it's not really settling - more like realizing you...

    Schiit Loki Max Impressions

Loki Max question - when in the chain, does it need to be powered on all the time? Or only turned on when you want to use EQ? I ask, because I only really generally find myself wanting EQ 30% or so of the time. And I often have music going 8-10 hrs a day. I'd be just as glad to not waste the...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Both of my Tyrs hum fairly quietly, as in I can only hear it if I put my ear about 8 inches from them. However, when I first got them, one of the Tyrs hummed much louder than the other, as in I could hear it several feet away. I contacted Schitt and they covered the cost to have it shipped back...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Definitely give them a good week or two to come into their own. With my Encores, at first the Tyrs were tame - bass p-cats (head-fi wouldn't allow the first part of the word spelled out...!) compared to the single Aegir I had been using. And not a homerun. But once they fully came around I knew...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

If there are any brave souls out there who try the new LISSTs in NON-SCHITT gear, would you please post your results here? I'd be curious about them in my preamp, but not worth risking damaging it. In other words, if you are happy to risk damaging your gear...wait that didn't come out right. Let...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Definitely not a cheap investment. However (and I'm sure I'm preaching to the crowd on this site) it is money that buys significantly "upwards." Meaning I have auditioned several other amps in my system, including the $7K Pass XA 30.8. Spoiler alert - preferred the Schiit (Aegir in that case)...

I'm running Tyrs with Encores. Highly recommended pairing. I'd imagine DIs would also sound fantastic with the Tyrs.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

@Jason Stoddard - Here's something I'm genuinely curious about. You're an honest guy (at least you seem to be). From the snarky notes added to the legalize in the manuals, to the humorous yet straightforward product faqs, to the well-written and insightful chapters here on Head-Fi, you clearly...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Goodness gracious no. After Aegir, these Tyrs are acting as air conditioner units here. On hot days I like to hang out by them to cool off. Seriously, not hot in the slightest. Mildly warm perhaps, bordering on tepid. Yggdrasil runs much warmer. Unless you're talking about sound quality, because...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Update - I got the Tyr back yesterday, one week to the day I took it to Fedex. And I can happily report that the hum/buzz is much quieter now. Like with the first Tyr, I can only hear the hum/buzz within a few inches of the amp itself. Schiit notes report that they changed the transformer and...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Hi & welcome! Well, I wish all three of our Tyrs safe travels and successful troubleshooting. I have seen several reports of similar issues. It seems to be inconsistent from one unit to another. From one of my Tyrs I can only hear the transformer buzz within a few inches of it. The other one -...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Well Tyr #1 is with Fedex now, en route back to the fine folks at Schiit headquarters to sort out (hopefully) the hum. Meanwhile, Aegir is back in and dang it really is just such a great amp too. Such a sweet and entrancing tone from it. Still sticking with the Tyrs, but as Aragorn said to the...
