Any good recommendations on headphones that excel at midrange?
I've never heard the Nighthawk carbon, only the Nighthawk. From what I read from reviewers/owners of the Nighthawk carbon, it likely has a very similar sound signature to the Nighthawk except less warm mid's. I think both headphones have the same drivers.- SonyFan121

Any good recommendations on headphones that excel at midrange?
I see no real good recommendations here for what the OP asked for. Therefore, let me be the first in recommending a really decent headphone with IMO the best mid's you can get in a headphone regardless of price: The Audio Quest NightHawk. The Nighthawk has the warmest, most luscious, best mid's...- SonyFan121

Fostex TH500RP versus AKG K702.
If you don't mind me asking; what is it you don't like about your X00 Mahogany? At the moment I have Fostex TH-X00 Purple Heart drivers in the TH500RP cups, I was curious to see how the drivers performed in an open-back design and have been very impressed by the results, I would say there's a...- SonyFan121

Fostex TH500RP versus AKG K702.
The tonality/sound signature of the TH500RP just reminds me of the K702. I don't think it has the exact same sound signature but to my ears, it's close enough. Obviously with the TH500RP being a planar headphone, there are differences to how it sounds, but yeah, the sound signature/tonality of...- SonyFan121

The Mod Collective: Bring all your full sized headphone mods here.
I did no mods to the TH500RP cups before I put the TH-X00 drivers in them. When I had the TH500RP drivers in them I put some sound dampening material behind the drivers but have taken them out. Here is some pictures of the TH500RP headpone with TH-X00 Purpleheart drivers in them: I have kept...- SonyFan121

Unfortunately I can't upload a picture of the TH500RP drivers/transducers inside the cups because the earpads are sealed because the earpad rings are compressed and locked in place to the cups, furthermore I had to cut a gap in the earpad rings so the drivers/transducers would be able to go in...- SonyFan121

Rank the Headphones that You Own.
1. Fostex TH500RP (not in original cups - modded to closed-back). My new favourite headphone. Neutral, uncolored, analytical sound signature. A little bit bass-light but exceptionally detailed and clear treble, wide soundstage, great imaging. Very different to a TH500RP in stock form. 2. Fostex...- SonyFan121

Lol. No problem, i'll take some pics and post them soon. I have the TH-X00 Purple Heart drivers/transducers in the TH500RP housing/cups. I haven't tried the TH-X00 Purpleheart wooden cups on the frame of the TH500RP yet.- SonyFan121

(I hope this is the right place to share this). I recently bought ear defenders made by a company called Zohan, with the intention of also buying Sennheiser HD800 transducers to put them in it and create a closed-back HD800, but I also recently bought a Fostex TH500RP and actually prefer Fostex...- SonyFan121

New Fostex RP open-backed planar magnetic headphone, TH500RP! Available now!
Decided to mod my TH500RP and thought I would share my results. I put some sound dampening material in the cups, in the hope that I would hear lower bass. Well, the result is not quite what I was expecting (I was expecting a bass response somewhat similar to that of a Fostex TH-X00), it is...- SonyFan121

Best sounding set-up possible?
This might seem a little different, but I would suggest using a power amp with your headphones. I used to own a Linn LK85, paired with a Cyrus Linkport and Cyrus CD6. It was the holy grail for me. No dedicated headphone amp, portable device (such as DAP or smartphone), or even integrated amp...- SonyFan121

Opinions on Open Planar Magnetic Headphones
I hope you found a headphone you like. If not then I recommend the Fostex TH500RP. From what I've read about most other midrange and High-end planar magnetic headphones (the TH500RP is my first midrange/high-end planar headphone i've heard/owned) the TH500RP can compete with the best of them...- SonyFan121

Introducing myself - wondering if I should my Wharfedale Diamonds 9.1 bookshelfs
I used to own a Pioneer VSX-524 before I replaced it with a Sony CMT SBT100B and I would say the Pioneer represents great value for money. Subwoofer crossover should be set at the frequency that your speakers bass response starts to roll off. I currently have Wharfedale Diamond 220's which are...- SonyFan121

HD800 Story Telling Time - *Warning* Prepare thyself, not for the faint of heart - (You've been warned!)

The Entry Level Stax Thread
Can anyone tell me what is the most affordable/cheapest Stax earphones/headphones? Would they be worth it/better than the Koss ESP 95X? I'm just curious to know. Over the years i've pretty much heard almost all the closed-back and open-back headphones I've wanted to hear, with the exception of...- SonyFan121

Headphones for relaxing listening sessions [1000$]
I had better say that the Astell&Kern T5P is not an open-back headphone, even though it sounds like one. Overall it has a well balanced, neutral-ish sound signature with full/deep, detailed, powerful, accurate bass, warm detailed midrange, extremely revealing/detailed high frequencies that is...- SonyFan121

Headphones for relaxing listening sessions [1000$]
I have no experience with the T1, so sorry I can't comment on that headphone, but the A&K T5P (I had the first gen version) was a very good, very impressive headphone. The only thing that annoyed me was that it's cable had a 2.5mm balanced connection instead of a 3.5mm one. So I couldn't use it...- SonyFan121
