ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions

Glad it arrived safely and that she's good to go. Once you get the G73R in, plus the GEC U709 and the Valvos, it will really come alive. From your DAC list, one I would have reservations on is the border patrol, a lot of people find a little soft sounding from what I understand. Since the...

    Pass Labs - HPA1

Interesting. What context are the negative reviews? Like, the site is hard to navigate? The site itself is perfectly fine for buying things from. The sellers are just regular audiophiles and some storefronts like you find on other sell sites, no different. In that way you just need to make sure...

    Pass Labs - HPA1

For buying or selling? For buying, I don't think it's shady or anything. It's been the premier audiophile used gear site for decades now. It's not very robust for headphone gear though. Personally, I've pretty much abandoned it after their website update rollout debacle many years ago. For...

    ampsandsound (aka Amps & Sound)

I knew it wasn't compatible with the Pendant, but I read elsewhere that some were using it with adapter in their BB Rev 1, and I read a review of the Red October who was using it as well. Since the BB is the same circuit as the Mogwai, I assume it will work? But thought I'd ask Update: Justin...

Quick question -- is the A2900 tube compatible with a Mogwai SE Rev 2? I read that it's not an exact equivalent of a 12AT7 but it will work in certain circuits.

You read some opinions, decided you wouldn't like it and therefore won't try it. And decided to post it to a Pass thread. Kind of a strange post. I guess you'll never know...

I know he has more than one storefront so it could have been the same guy or same umbrella

There was a brief time when he started the auctions at $199. Was fun while it lasted! But ~$300 is about as low you'll find for the mythical G73-R I asked him about a black label months ago and he said he didn't have any more. But I guess there's a chance he got some since then Very true!

Dubstep Girl's Massive 5AR4/5R4/5U4G Rectifier Review/Comparison! (Rectifer Tube Rolling thread)

Here is some info I found to follow up Mullard GZ34 black base on some things to look for. To sum – fat base, smooth edge and code f31 (made between 1958 - 1962) being the oldest. https://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/181086/rectifier-tube-which-mullard-gz34...

It is that for sure. NorCal, SoCal, and central coast is the little idyllic patch in the middle.

Cool. Dude you're in Lompoc? I graduated from Cal Poly and lived in the SLO area for 20+ years. Love it there

Dubstep Girl's Massive 5AR4/5R4/5U4G Rectifier Review/Comparison! (Rectifer Tube Rolling thread)

Of the Mullard 5AR4 black base (non-metal) versions, is there a consensus which sounds the best? I've seen regular or "fat" bases, no-notch, 4-notch or 7-notch. From what I understand, the fat base no-notch ones are the oldest. Is this the best option to look for?

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions

It's en route! I'd be surprised if you didn't love the Pendant. I certainly did. I'd say half hour or so of tube warm up just to get them nice and warm and stabilized. Maybe an hour or so but nothing crazy. I would concur with the G73-R as well, though I wouldn't worry too much about black vs...

I was surprised to find how well the Pendant SE sounded vs the Mogwai. Granted, I had a pretty top tier set of tubes for the Pendant (GEC U709, Telefunken G73R, 1954 closed getter Valvo EL84) but it was absolutely no slouch. I still think the Pendant is a helluva tube amp and one of the best...

I don't hear any noise at all, but I've primarily only used the Sol P on the 8 ohm tap. Nothing more sensitive than that. But I understand the Rev 2 versions are made to be quieter. It's definitely been that so far. Yeah, definitely have thought about getting a BB or Nautilus, maybe someday...

Happy new owner of a lightly used Mogwai SE Rev 2. This will be my fourth A&S amp, starting with a very OG SE-84, then Mogwai SE Rev 1, Pendant SE and now the Mogwai Rev 2. I've had many amps in between those but I keep coming back to the iconic look and great sound of Justin's amps. Plus...

I'd also suggest 1950s Valvos. They're a bit on the warmer side, nice full sounding tubes and great soundstage. My favorite power tube for the Pendant

    Final Audio D7000

This would likely be a huge deal breaker for me. I listen to a lot of electronic music and if bass started to clip at low hz or loudish volumes, that would be a hard stop. I've read similar comments about the D8000 Pro bass as well, though the comments seem to be a bit sporadic

Sounds compelling. Though I am digging the bass on these things for sure! But would be nice to have another option in that respect. Might look into silver cables down the road as well.

Cool, thanks! What are the sonic differences with the ultra wide pads? I'm definitely keen to try variations. Indeed you do, the TD stuff is great IMO

Same here. I've got a 4.4 OEM cable and am down to swap for a 4 pin if anyone wants
