I actually use a Cambridge Audio 851N now as a DAC/Streamer. It uses twin Analogue Devices dac chips, and is way beyond the Orchid in terms of . musical distortion free full bodied sound

I prefer full albums, but with the whole MP3 library/streaming, I have to admit I dip into random tracks, but it feels a bit soul destroying. Then I have to put on a record just so I can reaffirm my appreciation for listening to the journey that is an album.

Bose Quiet Comfort II 35, they have that Bose signature sound if you like it, smooth and unoffending with plenty of detail without being overbearing, and the bluetooth is flawless.

Labour? I dont think the chips in the Pagoda are soldered, so all you need is a chip puller, an anti-static bracelet and a star key to remove the top. The upgrade in my Orchid from the basic R chip to the S2 was profound.

Just a heads up the Orchid and possibly the chips are now up for sale as I am debating having a custom made DAC made for me...or potentially the MHDT Pagoda as I'vr since changed amplifiers and feel it will suit. UK based but can post worldwide.
