The Stax Thread III
I haven’t ever written an equipment review or comparison, but for some time now I’ve owned both a Carbon CC and a Blue Hawaii SE and since that isn’t all that common I thought I’d do my best to share my thoughts on the two of them, amateur as the result may be. I see folks come at describing...- jbrownson

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
I have 009Ss and KSE 1500. The level of detail is similar, but the 009s are far superior in a way I'm not sure I can describe. I suspect it's the quality of the driver I'm using (Carbon CC) and them being open vs the closed KSE 1x00. For me it's all about detail and the KSE 1500 is a great...- jbrownson

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
How do you go about earthing the Qutest? I get a hum when I use it with my Shure KSE 1500 electrostatic IEMs. When I touch the case, or use a battery bank the hum goes away. I suspect I ned to earth the system since neither unit has an earth connection. I found the ifi Groundhog, but the Qutest...- jbrownson

STAX SRM-D10 Portable Driver Unit - Impressions and News
Nice photo, thanks for the tip. Great point, I should be more specific about my use cases. First of all for me it's all about detail. I love electrostats and Chord DACs because the Chord DACs are so precise with their timing, and the Stax are fast enough to take advantage of it. I listen to...- jbrownson

No, sorry for the confusion, it's difficult to use the plural way of referencing headphones when they start shipping them w/ S at the end, I try to capitalize it when it's part of the name and lowercase when I'm using the plural. There isn't any 700S headphone from Stax, just a pair of 700s.- jbrownson

I listened to L700s on a Stax SR-353X for a long time and loved them. Then I went to RMAF and heard a Blue Hawaii SE, and couldn't pass up the chance to purchase it. I don't know anything about the iESL, but the 353 did not do the 700s justice. Awhile later I also picked up a pair of 009Ss...- jbrownson

I listened to that combo for about a year and loved it. I to began wondering what the bottleneck was. I upgraded to a BHSE and was really impressed. I later picked up a 009S and found the upgrade to BHSE from 353X to be way more significant than the L700 to the 009S. L700 scales up _very_ nicely...- jbrownson

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
Before I got my HMS when I listened to DSD I switched my Dave to DSD mode instead of PCM mode. Now I'm going through HMS first. I believe HMS always outputs PCM anyway, so there's no sense in switching Dave's mode right? How does the processing of DSD differ when going through M Scaler to Dave's...- jbrownson

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
I just bought a Dave from Moon (M Scaler too). Very responsive on email, was a good experience. Bought my first hifi gear from The Source before I moved away from LA, they're great too, and have a great selection of things you can try.- jbrownson

Watts Up...?
I came across a video on YouTube from a guy who makes music that looks interesting when you show the waveform on an oscilloscope. Somehow it made all of the descriptions I've seen/read of Mr. Watt's DAC tech make a bit more sense: This guy's "oscilloscope music" is pretty impressive too: -
Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
I had to set the input pad to -10dB and the Qutest is on 2V (also tried 1V). w/o the input pad even 1V clips. Yeah I had trouble before when I was driving the KSE 1500 w/ a Mojo with an even louder buzz when charging the KSE 1500 while listening. I solved that with an iFi iPower. I've also...- jbrownson

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread
I'm trying to drive my Sure KSE 1500 with a Chord Qutest. The Qutest only has RCA outputs. The KSE 1500 only has a minijack input. I am using an RCA to minijack cable (actually I've tried 3 of varying quality). I'm getting a very audible buzz when not touching the case of the Qutest or KSE 1500...- jbrownson

New Member Introductions thread
Hello Head-fi, I've been lurking for a year or two off and on, but finally making an account. My journey started w/ Audio-Technica M-50s. After much reading and largely driven by inner fidelity's review I quickly moved to the Hifiman HE-400s with modified pads as recommended by Zeos. I was...- jbrownson
