You are replying to a very old message. There are quite a bit more amps to consider now. The dac in hdv820 is not good. The amp is okay but only for hd800 series (better amps definitely exist).

On the right energizer it certainly is. However it is scales more than any headphone I’ve heard.. so on a weaker energizer it is really bad, but on a great energizer it’s very good.

My buddy has an ha-300 so I can listen whenever. Shang-sr on 3es elite +Dave+Mscaler is currently the best I’ve heard. Voce on bhse +Dave+Mscaler has impressive stage as well. I don’t think it will be possible for hd800s to compete but I’ll try.

I didn’t try hd800s on ha-300 so can’t confirm (even though I had it with me). Was trying about 40 different cans and 4 different amps and mostly focused on TOTL cans.

since the question was about not only hd800s, but also Susvara or other TOTL headphones, then I will still say no.

2cents: (Keep in mind I haven’t heard CRBN), but from my experience, since Voce is very hard to drive that means if your energizer isn’t high-end you will miss a lot of details. Voce scales more than any headphone I’ve heard. It’s both the worst headphone and the most impressive staging...

Sorry to break it to you but hd800s is both dac and amp picky. The cheapest thing I got to sound okay on hd800s was chord mojo.

what weaknesses does indigo have, and can you describe the stage/imaging?

Very happy with my UM Mest mk2. It’s stunning on m17, even better on Holo May + 430ha (which usually doesn’t play nice with IEMs but sounded great for Mest.) Beats my A12t/A18t, and also beats a lot of over ear headphones (minus Susvara)
