Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Any idea where to find a diagram for properly re-terminating the cable? Especially to a balanced plug?

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Regarding the connectors on non-Sennheiser cables, I have heard there are some really bad ones with plastic housing over the pins. Even production problems where the left side and right side were not the same sizes. My custom cable that cost about $60 has what appears to be aluminum housing...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I got my cable 2.5 mm cable for around $60 from Shenzhenaudio (Ebay ID wsz0304). By default they make the 3.5 mm TRRS plug, but they will manufacture the 2.5 mm plug if you request it. The manufacture and shipping take a while, but I think it is worth it. It is a very solid cable:

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I don't want to start a big argument here, but I believe that J The Killer has stated he has difficulty hearing any difference. Might I posit that if he is only playing the file from a Thinkpad W530 with an inexpensive Realtek audio chip with no other DAC or amplification involved that we need...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I can't help but wonder what Sennheiser was thinking when they cooked up these headphones with Massdrop. Surely, at some point, they must have realized they created something that sounds incredibly good for this price point. As people who enjoy good quality Sennheiser headphones discover that...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I own the 660s and I use them with my DAP. As has been previously stated, the 58x is easier to power and livelier. I find the bass and soundstage to be more satisfying than the 660s. The 660s are great headphones but more subdued than the 58x. There are some places especially with loud...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

On the Dekoni website it says "Dekoni Audio Guarantees all our products free from manufacturers defects for life." In theory, if there is a defect in their product, you should get another pair for free. Although they may have some kind of shipping charge that covers some of their costs. I...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Before everyone goes chasing the Dekoni pads, which are by no means a bargain or inexpensive, read the reviews on Massdrop. Multiple reports of the pads pulling away from the plastic base because of issues with the glue. This is within months of purchase. If you paid $10 on Ebay for these...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Yes, and in response to previous posts, I was trying to be clear, but I guess not succeeding that the distortion is in the source. Unfortunately, the headphones seem to augment or exaggerate the distortion. You turn down the volume and you notice it less. Simple solution. :smile_phones: I...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

One word of caution from someone who listens to a lot of rock music. Right now I am listening to Led Zeppelin II (Remastered) FLAC 96kHz/24bit over a balanced cable on my Pioneer XDP-300R. Incidentally, I have observed this on some other tracks and artists as well. Basically, if there is...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I have a custom made balanced cable that I have been using with my HD660s that I pair with my Pioneer XDP-300R DAP. Compared to the HD660s, the HD58X is much easier to power and more lively. The HD660s are more subdued and allow some finer details but the HD58x is really a great pair of...

    Pioneer XDP-300R | Twin DAC ES9018K2M | Balanced Out | Android | MQA | 2x MicroSD | WiFi | AptX

Apologies if this has already been covered, but has anyone used a TRRS to XLR adapter, like this one: https://www.moon-audio.com/custom-4-pin-xlr-headphone-adapter.html To connect their XDP-300R to an amp? *UPDATE* Never mind, I realized I needed a different set of connectors for what I...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Since we're talking about value and Massdrop, has anyone tried the Alex Cavalli licensed Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) with the 660s? Massdrop has some of these amps available for shipping...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Do you mean a $399 value? Because it clearly says "With our high volumes and less expensive packaging, we’re able to make this headphone available with a special price on the first drop: $149.99."

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Yes, not needing an amp to drive them has a certain value.

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Was the 6XX $300? Does anyone know the margins on these things? Or actually, the manufacturing costs for Sennheiser on each of these units?

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

I would hope between a $150 and $500 pair of Sennheiser headphones there would be substantial differences. If not, then the 58X is a substantial value and the 660s is criminally overpriced...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Yes, the description says (translated from German) "Moonsaudio 2.5mm Balanced (Male) to 4.4mm Balanced (Female)."

Just to be clear, those settings only affect the included Pioneer player, right? And doesn't UAPP Bit Perfect just override all the other settings?

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Looks like this guy in China will send you one: https://www.amazon.de/Moonsaudio-Ausgewogen-M%C3%A4nnlich-Weiblich-Balance/dp/B07CWB2HW2 It will probably take a couple of weeks and I cannot say if the quality is any good. Good luck!

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

I have seen some discussion here about building your own cable for the HD 660 S. I have done modifications and soldering in the past, so I am not really concerned about the work involved. I do not have any experience working with balanced cables though. Does anyone know where I can find a...

    Pioneer XDP-300R | Twin DAC ES9018K2M | Balanced Out | Android | MQA | 2x MicroSD | WiFi | AptX

Am I right in assuming that the sound adjustments only affect the built-in player? What settings are you using for these: DSP function Lock Range Adjust Digital filter Upsampling Mode Club Sound Boost Are you making any sound/quality adjustments to UAPP? What is the sampling rate of the...

    Pioneer XDP-300R | Twin DAC ES9018K2M | Balanced Out | Android | MQA | 2x MicroSD | WiFi | AptX

Are people using UAPP with balanced headphones? Because I find it to be pretty bad with my HD audio files. 70's rock music has vocal tracks that sound muted and the sound stage is totally unfocused. To my ears, balanced headphones sound way better with the default player than UAPP.

Thanks for the feedback! I was aware of the battery life issue, but I think I will be OK by disabling some apps and Wi-Fi. I had read about UAPP and I think I will give it a try. Are people using it with the Morphit Mobile add-on?

Pretty simple - it was less money. I am not sure how Amazon does it, but it was less than the listed price, low shipping costs and no import fees. It was here in a matter of days. I buy lots of stuff from the various Amazon locations (UK, DE, FR, IT and JP) and I use euros to pay for it...
