I’ve been running my newly acquired LCD-X 2021 from a JDS-Labs Element II and an iFi Zen DAC. The X is excellent with both units. The bass boost on the Zen is really nice for when you need a little extra rumble.

I mean tighten it up. My DT990 600 sound a little boomy to my ear. IDK anything about the graphs or harman target.

Get rid of the 990 treble spike and tighten up the bass and they’ll have a winner.

Putting power to the 4xx via balanced out on my Aune X7S was a game changer for my relationship with the headphones. They went from once in a while use to daily driver at the desk.

Sounds like you had a defective set. As has been said many times before Hifiman QC is suspect.
