Regarding talk about the headphone amp, I wonder if this is the reason why listening at lower levels can sometimes give a great session, im listening to my ether 2 at -25 and it’s a bit quiet but a lot of the other interesting aspects of the music are easier to appreciate.- ZappaMan

And running Dave off a big lifo battery would solve that? If connecting to Dave via optical and listening on headphones?- ZappaMan

ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion
I have both hd800s and e2, I don’t listen to my hd800s anymore and haven’t for years. I feel like the hd800s had been adjusting the music to create a wider soundstage, but it felt unnatural to me after using e2 for a while. E2 has much more emotion for getting down to almost any type of...- ZappaMan

With talk of reviews/reviewers, I found this review very refreshing and compelling. I’m also interested to buy the speakers to use with Mdave/etude. I wonder if it’s transparency would align well with dave/etude and whether anyone has heard this combo?- ZappaMan

Best folk song ever, Johnny jump up, by Christy Moore on an album called Magic Nights. I was once sitting at a wake and a young man sung this song word for word, left quite the impression.- ZappaMan

Raising sand is a great album to demonstrate what your dac/setup can do. So quietly sung, beautiful harmonies, but also variety and really interesting ways they use their voices as instruments. I switched back to using my zen as an end point via roon on a Mac mini, and it does have a magic...- ZappaMan

I’ve found myself in that spot where the extra “dimension” may be noise from the device….. it’s such a refreshing dimension. I can try putting the zen into the matrix spdif and put it’s optical output to the mscaler to see what happens. The mscaler is on batttey, but zen and Dave would be on...- ZappaMan

I obtained an innuous zen 3, feeding mscaler the usb output, I have to say I’m floored by what I’m hearing, both on head phones and speakers. On headphones, it feels like an extra dimension is being provided, much more space, discernible layering, reality. Mostly, I’m feeling that kind of...- ZappaMan
