Hifiman HE6-SE
Wowza, just tried these pads and they sound even better than the Hifiman velours, and they're way more comfortable too. I do find that I need a bit of a subbass shelf EQ now, but I can live with that.- pwjazz

Reply to review by 'pwjazz' on item 'QKZ VK4 iem'
I love my VK4. I put some Sedna Xelastec tips on there, found the treble resonance peak with a sine sweep and tweaked with EQ a bit, and most days I'll reach for the VK4 before my Legacy 4, Starfield or Andromeda. They just make music fun, without fatigue, and with good tips and a little EQ the...- pwjazz

Best Headphones for low volume listening?
Actually, what I was getting at in that article is that I prefer the HD58X over the Elex. The LCD2C is a very different sounding headphone from those two. FWIW I still own the HD58X but not the LCD2C. If you like the HD58X, but want just a little more out of it, you could try the curtain mod.- pwjazz

Verum Audio - Exciting high performance DIY planar
@Garuspik I ordered these headphones thinking that they're over-ear as they used to be. I don't wear on-ear headphones, I never found them comfortable. I don't know if my order has shipped yet, but if it hasn't ... 1. Can I request the old-style pads? 2. I understand that you made some changes...- pwjazz

Did I just measure the dreaded Sabre "Glare"?
Here's the result of driving the NX4 from the V20. It looks just like the NX4 driven from my Mac and doesn't show the initial dip from the V20's DAC, so the difference is not due to the pre-recorded frequency sweep or UAPP.- pwjazz

Did I just measure the dreaded Sabre "Glare"?
Gotcha. I haven't done a ton of these yet, but I've done a few. LCD2C HD600 The difference in these cases seem tiny compared with what I saw in my most recent test. One difference could be that testing the LG V20 required me to play a pre-recorded frequency sweep through a media player on the...- pwjazz

Did I just measure the dreaded Sabre "Glare"?
That would be amazing, no pressure though. I'm just hear to learn and I'll take whatever I can get. I'm hopeful that over time we'll see more measurements of headphone/amp/dac combinations, as traditionally I've seen either measurements comparing just DACs or amps, or measurements comparing just...- pwjazz

I controlled for this, and that initial dip doesn't change with a different amp.- pwjazz

Did I just measure the dreaded Sabre "Glare"?
As mentioned, I tested: Macbook USB -> NX4 -> DT 1990 LG V20 -> DT 1990 LG V20 -> Line in on NX4 -> DT 1990 This hits both of your suggested conditions. Basically, the amp had a bit of an effect on the decay post peak, but the leading dip (or no dip) seemed completely DAC dependent...- pwjazz

Did I just measure the dreaded Sabre "Glare"?
That would be awesome! I've always understood the headphone's characteristics to dominate, so even if two DACs measure very differently unloaded, it wouldn't surprise me that the same headphones measure basically the same from both.- pwjazz

Did I just measure the dreaded Sabre "Glare"?
Looking for a DAP with a nice built in amp, I recently acquired a new overstock LG V20 on eBay. The few negative reviews I've read of it talk about the ESS Sabre "glare", describing it as either a bright (specifically sharp) frequency response or a sort of digital or unnatural sound. The only...- pwjazz

With Sennheiser's HD 600, I can't tell the difference between a Macbook Air and a Magni 3 in an ABX test
I find that really exciting, as we often talk subjectively about amp+headphone but do relatively little measuring of it. It seems that we have a lot to learn in that area, which seems fun!- pwjazz

With Sennheiser's HD 600, I can't tell the difference between a Macbook Air and a Magni 3 in an ABX test
@amirm It would be really interesting to see the same graph from a different amplifier (perhaps a drastically different one like an OTL tube amp or something).- pwjazz

With Sennheiser's HD 600, I can't tell the difference between a Macbook Air and a Magni 3 in an ABX test
I'll pick D! Regarding audibility of the switch ... The relays are externally loud. Worse, they sound different depending on the direction they're switching. There's also audible switching noise on the line due to swayback. So, I cheat. On each change, I add an extra 50 flips of the switch...- pwjazz

With Sennheiser's HD 600, I can't tell the difference between a Macbook Air and a Magni 3 in an ABX test
Yup. Compared to something like an HE-6, the HD 600 is quite efficient. In my personal stable though, I have the DT 1990, LCD2C and HF5, all of which are more efficient than the HD 600, so for me it's the least efficient headphone with which I can test :)- pwjazz

With Sennheiser's HD 600, I can't tell the difference between a Macbook Air and a Magni 3 in an ABX test
I often read about how headphone X (e.g. HD 600) "scales" with better amplification. I've been trying to objectively establish whether I'm able to discern such differences either through measurement or listening tests. I've now failed to discern such differences often enough that I've concluded...- pwjazz

For heavily instrumental music like symphonies and even some opera they can sound just a little thick and reverby, so I find myself using EQ to tweak frequencies below 1000. But on these motets, the stock sound is just perfect and really makes me feel like I'm in the room.- pwjazz

Topping NX4
I've never used the Q1, but I own the NX4. I'm very happy with it. It drives my Etymotic HF5s on low gain without noise and has enough power on high gain to handle my HD600s. Connectivity with my Mac, iPhone 5s and Moto G4 is good. It also works nicely with the line-out from my Fiio X1 DAP...- pwjazz

Audeze LCD-2C Classic - Impressions Thread
Looking at your measurements, the frequency response is quite flat from 1K on down. I've really been enjoying the LCD2C but sometimes, especially on classical and metal, I find that the sound is a bit too thick for my mood. So, I tried a -4dB low shelf filter starting at 1K with Q 1 and I'm...- pwjazz
