Final Audio Design Impressions and Discussion Thread
Got my end-game IEM from Final Official Store in Kawasaki. Guess what - a new Make 2! Needless to say, it is a great place to visit. Not only are the Make series are sold here exclusively, they also offer tuning examples for them. I genuinely like one of the Make 2 tuning more than a more...- LYuen

I assume Android Auto would only do data transfers (i.e. digital out) instead of analog audio signal, so DAC won't work anyway.- LYuen

SONY NW-ZX500
Just to elaborate, sensitivity is a measurement of dB/mW, i.e. the volume you would get per 1mW power input. SE846 has a sensitivity of 114dB/mW, while SE535 has 118dB/mW, so SE846 is less sensitivity than SE535 despite lower impedance. These figures implies the current needed to drive the IEMs...- LYuen

Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)
So interesting to see a discussion between N3 and Z5 in 2020, both IEMs are pretty classic! Given an appropriate source, N3 cannot beat Z5 for sure. However, the two IEM aimed at different customers (and at different times) Z5 aimed at high-end players, who have no problem to find gears to fit...- LYuen

HiBy R6 2020 User Impressions
It will definitely go on sale in China in early November It's depending on how many stock available (after the first week?) for global sales. BTW, Hiby is offering a leather case for the new R6 for physical stores as launch gift in China, wonder will it be available for overseas (online? local...- LYuen

Pioneer XDP-300R | Twin DAC ES9018K2M | Balanced Out | Android | MQA | 2x MicroSD | WiFi | AptX
But keep in mind that it will mostly be software decode. The 300R only feeds the 9018k2m DAC with PCM format up to 192kHz. Though it can do digital output perfectly.- LYuen

HiBy R6 2020 User Impressions
The design and spec are really promising. Instead of an evolution of R6 pro, it's more like a little brother to the R8. I like its reduction in size and weight and hope it can keep the same audio quality. However, comparing with R6 Pro, the I/V converters have been changed from Muses8920s to...- LYuen

Sony NW-ZX300
Actually, I have a rather similar impression as you do. The sound stage is extremely wide, but the sound is a bit hollow. As I have an 'OK' dac-amp, I enjoy the richness with the amp than with the ZX300 with mod. But, have you tried the FW mod without applying ext-tuning? I find it more...- LYuen

I think you mean to use 300R as a DAC for your laptop As far as I know, there is no such function on 300R That's why I have upgraded to Sony's ZX300- LYuen

It is true that this DAP is limited in terms of power. But have you turned on the "variable line out" option if it exists?- LYuen

Pioneer XDP-300R | Twin DAC ES9018K2M | Balanced Out | Android | MQA | 2x MicroSD | WiFi | AptX
If you consider line out as bypassing analog volume control, every step of volume from this player is V-line out, as this player (as well as most other players) uses digital volume control. Just consider this V-line out as a law avoiding trick. If you are using external amplifier, use fixed...- LYuen

In addition, turn variable line out option on if it is there. This gets rides of the volume lock which is required by European regulation.- LYuen

Are you using streaming apps? If yes the hissing noise is pretty normal with sensitive IEMs No harm to the gears, just annoys your ears My suggestion is to play offline files with stock music player app, which has much lower noise level Low 2 is safe, just that the sound signature is soft and...- LYuen

Pioneer XDP-300R | Twin DAC ES9018K2M | Balanced Out | Android | MQA | 2x MicroSD | WiFi | AptX
300R uses dedicated DACs(ES9019K2M) and AMPs(9601K) While ES9218 is an integrated DAC/AMP It is like an older CPU+dedicated graphic card comparing with a newer intelHD The DAPs build with 9018_2M family is still generally better than 9218/9318 The reason he think 300R is worse than V20 may due...- LYuen

The auto volume is supposed to eliminate the difference in volume between BAL and ACG Turn it on and purely compare the different in sound effect. That is interesting. BAL provides powerful sound (double output power), ACG provides similar audio signature (and output power) as unbalanced ACG...- LYuen

Have you turn on the auto volume function? It's under the ACG/BAL option page. It shall neutralize the difference in volume between ACG and BAL. ACG and BAL are different modes. There is no better one, just preference and headphone matching.- LYuen

Pioneer XDP-300R | Twin DAC ES9018K2M | Balanced Out | Android | MQA | 2x MicroSD | WiFi | AptX
Well they are just DAPs of similar level, so don't expect a big upgrade. X5iii is more tuned to the 'V shape', has slightly warmer sound and with some brightening on the vocals. 300R is less exciting, more original and give better details. I other words, 300R is a more revealing DAP. Also...- LYuen

Pioneer XDP-300R | Twin DAC ES9018K2M | Balanced Out | Android | MQA | 2x MicroSD | WiFi | AptX
Well, what I mean is that 300R only works for specific channels of 5GHz Wi-Fi In specific, it works for channel 36 to 48 as stated in user manual (but I guess it is OK for 36~64) And it simply detects nothing for 100~144 and 149~165 And yes, the strength of Wi-Fi isn't strong on 300R, but so...- LYuen

Would you or your colleagues do a test on the stock music app of 300R for resampling? Actually I don't think there is significant SRC problem on 300R as some users suggested above, espciespec for the stock app, but it would nice if there is a proof- LYuen
