    Best headphone you ever heard.

The original Orpheus. That was easy:-)

    Flagship over-ear?

Yes the new headbands on the K612/701/702 are fairly rigid. I don’t mind them at all but I’ve seen a few negative mentions of them here and there. The one found on the K712 though is different, both in design and material, ultimately making it more comfortable.

    Flagship over-ear?

Flagships these days are more about luxurious materials like wood, metal and leather. Granted they look like a million bucks, but fancy looks do not equate to better sound quality nor increased comfort. Loads of current flagships that weigh in over half a kilo..which is nuts imho. The ADX5000 is...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

It’s a common XLR connector that is also frequently used by AKG. I am currently using my old K702 cable for the 900:-)

    Flagship over-ear?

I honestly think you’re going to struggle with this quest. The Grado is like 290 grams..which is nothing. I was about to recommend the ADX5000 but it’s around 270 grams. The little brother though the R70X is only 210 and, at least to me, sounds better, so maybe that is your best bet?

    Hifiman Edition XS Launched

Should one trust people who always do sighted testings because reviewers are able to look past their own biases? No. Human beings are VERY easy to fool - especially when it comes to our ears. Yet in this hobby we’re bombarded with peeps who are more precise than the best measuring tools out...

    Hifiman Edition XS Launched

Taming the sibilance is changing the presentation…or else you’re just left with the same sibilance/strong treble:-) Either way you’re not going to change anything about this issue via amps or dacs. EQ or a pad swap is your best way forth.

    Hifiman Edition XS Launched

^You’re far better off either EQ’ing down the treble or perhaps changing the pads. Boxes do not alter the presentation of planar headphones unless they also come with a built-in EQ.

    Hifiman Edition XS Launched

A dac is a dac is a dac is a dac is a dac is a dac. ….well at least to human ears that is. Dac differences are best experienced as either a bat or dolphin👍 Rocking the Sundara today and it’s just magnificent with some Art Zoyd. Listening to Berlin right this minute and enjoying the heck out of...

    Old AKG K701s (SN XXXX)

Agreed, this belongs in the classifieds. Also…this is somewhat of a futile endeavour anyway. There are no old school K701s out there with working elastics..outside of those that have been changed for a fresh pair. The AKG elastics tend to lose their mojo after about 7-8 years…so even if you’re...

Focal Clear Mg Review & Measurements

I really dig the sound of the openback Focals I’ve owned. Love the open feeling I get from them whilst they, at the same time, are able to go down low in the subbass..well at least for an openback dynamic driver headphone. Truth be told, I think Focal sports the finest of bass performances I’ve...

Focal Clear Mg Review & Measurements

^I can translate my previous post into a different language if that helps you understand:-) I can do a take in Danish fx.

Focal Clear Mg Review & Measurements

I’ve had the Clear, Elear and Elex twice as well as one round with the Utopia. They all end up sounding like an old boat. If they stopped making noises once they were on my head, no problem…but they don’t. With every head movement I make I get old sailboat sounds cutting into my music. One of...

Most likely people who are comparing headphones with pads that have vastly different stages of wear and tear;-)

Focal Clear Mg Review & Measurements

So I’ve been mulling over repurchasing a Clear - going a third round with the Focal. I really dig the overall linearity - especially the openness of Focal headphones attracts me. I then realised that Focal hates Europe. French company no less…that sells an Elex to Americans for peanuts…also...

    Focal Clear headphones

Yeah…upgrading cables in order to achieve better sound quality is all the rave here on Head-Case. Seems like fishing for sharks in the Sahara - a fruitless and futile venture if you ask me.

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

We all hear so differently. I feel the bass plenty with the stock tuning and feel it is just the right amount of extra heft in order to outweigh the sparkle up top. In the end though this is very much down to what one is used to. Having gotten accustomed to the more neutral bass deliveries of...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

I really dig my 900. It’s one of those rare Beyers that sound awesome without EQ or a pad swap. If you really liked the DT1990 outside of the bright treble performance, you should probably take a closer look at these. They’re not exactly neutral but neither are the DT1990. Speaking of the...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Z, DMS, Josh Velour, Resolve and the like from YouTube are all just youngins that have no clue about sound quality or indeed the basics behind sound reproduction…which is pretty damn important if you’re going to make a living out of reviewing hi-fi products and pretend to be of use. As it is I...

    Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Thread

I got this headphone a couple of months ago..just for kicks as it was extremely cheap. I wasn’t really expecting anything other than it being closedback. What I found in return has quickly made this Beyer my go-to closedback headphone. That used to be the K371 but I gifted my old pair to a...
