Ah no I'm getting a DAC/Amp, probably the Qudelix. it's just I'd heard that the Stealth at least can be driven straight from a phone if need be.

It's so genre-dependent, haha. Can see why I wrote them off initially because with some music it feels like a big chunk of the sound spectrum has just been scooped out. But with ambient and soundtrack music it really seems to sharpen things.

@Chris Kaoss Sorry for the direct question, but would you say there would be a big difference when you power the Quads with an amplifier versus just listening to them direct from the LG V30? It's not happening with these headphones at the moment but I'm aware I might be under-powering them.

Yeah tried switching the cable, no change. It's sort of a creaking sound, it's incredibly distracting - definitely feels like it's external, probably some hinge somewhere on the clamp-adjuster (I'm not very technical). Anyway have the warranty so might get in touch with Quad if it keeps up.

No I've never indulged in a headphone amp so far... I have an LG V30 which should be able to handle them though, at least until I get a feel for their sound quality, and then maybe I'll think about adding an amp.

So this is getting delivered tomorrow... one thing I'm definitely not going to have any complaints about is the wait.

Has anyone tried the Azla Sedna tips on these? Just wondering about compatibility. Actually while I'm at it - Monster foam tips? KZ star tips? Tennmak whirlwinds? Final Audio tips?

Yeah I don't think it's going to be a dealbreaker and I'm all set to pull the trigger on these - but it would be good to know what you find. If I do listen to them and find them lacking it might give me a few clues as to why or where to turn next.
