FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out
Definitely would expect longer runtimes at lower gain/volume. I originally had the two DAP's setup on a bed with a 15 tog feather duvet over them as it was quite loud with both on full blast, (and audio a fraction of a second out of sync sounds so bad), but at its highest, the temperature of...- ShadyBee

FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out
I did the test non stop, and took battery and temp readings every hour. Battery drain was very linear on both devices. X7ii dropping 13% and X5iii dropping 11% each hour. Below is %charge showing on each device read on each hour. X7ii: 100%, 87%, 74%, 61%, 48%, 35%, 23%, 9% X5iii: 100%...- ShadyBee

FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out
I did a battery drain test a few days ago comparing the runtime of X7ii and X5iii from fully charged. Both set to Pure Music Mode, Screen off, WiFi & BT off, No EQ, High Gain and at Maximum Volume (120). WE already have taken it to a private conversation. You are the one who has now just diverted the subject of Fiio X7ii by posting that comment.- ShadyBee

You said "The point at which the final ship that comes in and crashes is picked up" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Run_(instrumental) "When the band performed this song in concert, at the end of it, a model aeroplane would fly from one end of the arena to the other, appearing to crash in...- ShadyBee

When I said "night and day" it was within the context of the discussion of comparing the X5iii to the X7ii. To my ears there is negligible difference in SQ between the two Fiio DAP's, but in comparison to a smartphone, for me the DAP is significantly better. I guess this is mainly due to the...- ShadyBee

I was happy using a smartphone and decent over ear phones for occasional non tethered listening, but the DAPs have so much more driving power that it was a night and day moment for me between the two.- ShadyBee

Have you got the track time position of the section you mention in On The Run. I'm not sure what you mean by "one rocket ship is 2 more clearly on X7II" If you cannot hear something out of the X5iii, it could be that your hearing may not be great. :)- ShadyBee

The sonic difference between my iPhone and Note 4 compared to either of these DAP is obviously night and day. The sonic difference between the X5iii and X7ii is to my ears, negligible. The X5iii has better battery life and a more powerful amplifier compared to the X7ii in SE config, and I...- ShadyBee

FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out
It is probably worth the extra £150 or so for the 64GB vs 32GB, and 2GB vs 1GB RAM, & 5GHz WiFi if those are important to you. The connectors do feel slightly tighter on the X7ii, and also the volume control has a little more clickyness to it. I think build quality is better on the X5iii, as the...- ShadyBee

That AP200 looks kinda similar to the X5iii, but the X5iii looks better with the smartphone like SD card holders, and straight edged body shape. The only thing I would change on the X5iii is to put the power switch on top like the X7ii, instead of on the side. Form factor wise I think it's...- ShadyBee

I did. So much. With different phones, but mainly with T5p Gen2. To my ears I really cannot tell much of a difference, but the X5iii seemed maybe a bit fuller sounding on just a couple of tracks. I would say that there is not much separating the two. Its really hard to do a direct comparison...- ShadyBee

Hi Did you volume match the X7ii and X5iii when you compared them. X7ii is higher output on balanced, and the X5iii is lower output on balanced vs SE? Running thru balanced: 32Ω X7ii- 400mW vs X5iii- 240mW 300Ω X7ii- 63mW vs X5ii- 26mW SE the X5iii is generally more powerful 32Ω...- ShadyBee

NVME drives do run stupid hot. Most OEMs heatsink them. Dell Precision have a thermal transfer pad covering the whole drive and uses the aluminum palmrest as a big heatsink. You should make sure you haven't got a swap file in windows so it doesn't page out to disk.- ShadyBee

Hi I'm kinda new to DAP's, and have been testing out a few components, X5iii with K5, T5p 2nd Gen, AKT5p, DT1770, SRH1540 and PM-3. Today I got the X7ii (Which doesn't fit in the K5 :frowning2:) I'm highly dubious about things like burn in and balanced cables, and its hard to directly judge...- ShadyBee
