New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps
@DACLadder: I was really wondering what the architecture of that DAC module is! Is that dac map confirmed information by Kingwa or an educated guess? If that information is from Kingwa, DSD is propably converted to a 4 bit DSD stream. Could also be a 24 bit ladder + 16 elements (4 bit) converter...- norbert2nd

Gustard U18
Has anybody of you guys noticed that the U18 does MQA-decoding? It is nowhere mentioned in any marketing material or document I have seen. No clue which "unfolding" stage is implemented. If you play an MQA encoded 44.1kHz FLAC-file to the U18 it displays 88.1kHz. For example from this album...- norbert2nd

Denafrips 'Pontus' R2R ladder DAC - close up view
Dear all, The new DSP-board makes my external USB/I2S-interface redundant. I have used the Singxer SU-1 for that purpose. I'm not a big fan of the original Amanero-based DSP-board and of Amanero-boards in general. The new DSP-board really makes a big difference and takes away that coloration and...- norbert2nd

MHDT Labs Pagoda - Any owners out there?
I prefer my Orchid DAC over the Yggy any time when equipped with an ECC86 tube. The ECC86 is a low voltage car radio tube available for much less money than the ECC88 having the same pin layout. The only DAC in my possession coming close to the Orchid or even surpassing it in some areas is the...- norbert2nd

L.K.S. Audio MH-DA004 Dual ES9038PRO DAC - Van Damme's double impact?
Interesting! I'm also using BW01 for PCM and BW07 for native DSD. My server is a Daphile linux server. I don't think that the digital PLLs in the ES9038 chips are locking onto any clock contained in your PC. What I think is happening is that the digital PLL in the DAC locks on the different...- norbert2nd

Denafrips 'Pontus' R2R ladder DAC - close up view
I do own the Yggy for quite some time. Dropped it for some time due to experiments with Sabre based DACs (Gustard, LKS) but kept it. In the meantime my Daphile server evolved and trying "abandoned" hardware from time to time I re-discovered Yggy again. Yggy stayed in my system for some month...- norbert2nd

Denafrips 'Pontus' R2R ladder DAC - close up view
I can confirm everything you have written about the Yggy comparison. The Pontus is only bettered by my MHDT Orchid DAC (TDA1541A) but only when using ECC86 tubes! Anyway, the Yggy will be up for sale soon, Pontus and Orchid will stay!- norbert2nd

New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil
My Yggdrasil is still in transit from LA to Frankfurt. Thinking ahead: If temperature of the dac chips is really an issue couldn't that be solved quite easily with "DAC-heaters" being glued to the DAC-chips? DAC-heaters could be build using constant current sources with BD139 transistors (or...- norbert2nd

Gustard Amplifiers and DACs
... you are right, my eyes are getting old: Data and LRCK lines seem to be inverted. Could be that Gustard did it wrong two times: Once on the sender's and once on the receiver's side which nulls out in the U12/X12 combo. I have not compared I2S against SPDIF but USB via X12 vs. USB via U12 and...- norbert2nd

Gustard Amplifiers and DACs
You can check here "http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/164366-i2s-standards-ps-audio.html" that the PS-Audio standard is met by Gustard's implementation. No channel swap and no phase swap. I can confirm that there is no channel swap on PCM or DSD in my HDMI-connected U12/X12 combo.- norbert2nd
