    DIY Cable Gallery!!

Right. Mogami 2534 will fit fine in "regular" sized 550 cord. But not more then a single strand in 275 at least not the two paracord planet colors that I have. 275 is about half the diameter of 550

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

Twisted 26 gauge (Mogami 2893) will fit in 275 paracord. Is used 2893 to make a cable for my HE-400i. I used 4 strands twisted in 550 paracord, that split into two twisted double strands in 275. A single 24 guage (Mogami 2534) will fit in 275 paracord.

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

Not on audio wire, but I know someone who used plastdip to color PSU cables for a PC. It looked great until he started fishing the cables around the case and the coating started peeling off. I would think the same issue may come up with a headphone cable, the regular use and bending the...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

You are certainly welcome. The heating pad makes the hm5 material soft enough that it is pliable without having to stretch the material (much) over the rings. I just put the heating pad on high and set the pads flap side down for about 15 minutes. Then I just pulled one pad at a time and insert...

If you do not want to gut your stock pads, you can order the rings ny themselves drom Hifiman, for $10 shipped. I used those rings, and they are pretty flexible, it did not feel like they were in danger of breaking at anytime when installing them into the HM5 pads. I used a heating pad to warm...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

For the cable I made for my He400i's I used 550 cord for 4 strands (Mogami W2893 stripped, no copper sheath, just the wires) and then 275 for the two twisted wires after the split.

How do I solder 2.5mm jack?

What brand jack is that? If you don't mind.

Interesting. I did not "stretch" the pads to get the rings in. I just put the rings in one side and started working them in. The flap part, stayed flat against the ring, with only a little bulge where the clips are on the rings.

The ovals. I had no issues with stretching the pads over the rings, but I took my time and warmed the bottom of the pads up before doing it. Once the rings are in, if you spend a minute or two working the part of the pads that go over the rings you can get any bumps and distortions out. Mine...

I ordered a pair of pad rings from Hifiman and some Brainwavz HM5 angled pads, and after installing them they drastically increased the comfort, and I thought the stock Focus pads were pretty comfortable already. I'll need to put in some listening time before I am sold on any improvement in sound.

Define "Budget" ? How are much are you looking to spend? For my desktop I am using a Schiit Modi 2 Uber, and a Little Dot I+ and they sound amazing with the HE400i's. That combo minus the additional tubes I bought costs about $300 total. However, I tried my HE-400i with my phone, being...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I received my replacement He-400i's today. Everything is good to go, no cable issues and the jacks have a nice "click" when the plugs are inserted. The Redco 2.5mm plugs fit fine. One thing is I received a slightly different storage box. The previous one had the two piece velvet/velour type...

For the For the HE400i both + are wired to the tips, the negatives are both wired to the - plate/sleeve (per side). You could probably get away with using 2.5mm TS/mono plugs.

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

Yeah the issue is present with stock cable as well, like the internal pin that snugs against the tip is misaligned. The Redco plugs are just worse. The stock leftside plug, snaps into the rightside jack just fine. Both plugs will not fully seat into the left side jack. I just tried the 2.5mm...

I have had my He400i's for a few days now and they sound awesome, but it looks like I am going to have to return them. The left side 2.5mm jack is messed up and will not seat the plug all the way and it pops out all the time. The right side "clicks" in really securely. Not sure what the deal is...

Ultimate DIY: the 3.5mm 1/8" mini jack plug collection thread

Thanks Tom, I have some of the Rean Neutrik females (NYS240) and they are good connectors, and used one to add a removable cable to my DT770's. I looked everywhere I know to look for the Amphenol jacks with no luck (Mouser, Digikey, Ebay, Aliexpress etc).

I am impressed with the quality of the Amphenol K series of 3.5 plugs. It would be amazing if they made a female that matched.

Thanks, yeah I have never bought anything on aliexpress, so I never think to look there. I ordered something from Ebay for the first time in years, a few weeks ago. I now have my 400i and so far they sound great, can't wait to spend some time with them.

Thanks, I've seen those, or at least that style, the problem is the 400i's have little to no clearance, for anything other then a low profile plug (they have a cutout around the jack). Amphenol make those awesome 3.5mm with collars, I was hoping there was 2.5mm version out in the wild somewhere.

I was looking to build a DIY cable for an enroute pair of HiFiman HE400i's has anyone seen a good source of low profile 2.5mm Male TRS, or "regular" sized ones with a collar? Redco has these https://www.redco.com/Redco-2.5mm-Male-TRS-w-Collar.html and I have a couple ordered (finger crossed...

Thank you for the response. I thought I either read or saw that in a review, but have read/watched so many the last few weeks I could not be sure. I will say that sourcing low profile 2.5 male TRS is challenging as well I could only find them at Redco.

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I have a pair of HE-400i's coming tomorrow and had a quick question about the 2.5mm plugs used in the newer version. The pictures all show that the plugs are stereo, are they interchangeable? I was wondering because I will probably DIY a cable or two, and was wonder if I need to be worried about...
