Corda Opera and Grado GS1000, but now what?

Unfortunately, I haven't found a pair of closed phones that will touch the likes of the GS-1000. I've settled on Senn HD 280 Pro and Ultrasone HFI-650 for my closed phone use (recording). You might consider a great IEM instead.

    X-Fi Master Sampling Rate

Thanks, Rempert. maarek99 - Are you indicating that Bit-Matched resamples audio streams? Or that Bit-Matched changes the sampling rate to the stream's rate? Or that your listening tests resulted in no audible difference?

    X-Fi Master Sampling Rate

Does the X-Fi Elite Pro resample all sources above 44.1kHz? Its spec's and ASIO Info seem to indicate that it supports 48kHz and 96kHz rates natively. However, many posts on this forum extol the benefits of locking to 44.1kHz. While this would be optimal for Redbook and common ripped audio...

    echo indigo anyone?

If your looking for a high quality soundcard that will easily power most headphones, the original Echo Indigo will do the trick. The DJ version adds the ability to output two different sources at once and the IO version adds support for recording. I like my Indigo quite a bit. I use it on...

Rio Karma 20 - Initial Thoughts

I just returned from a great vacation which unfortunately included more than a day in the air. This air travel and a few moments spent in the hotel gave me a great opportunity to use the Karma to listen to some of my favorite recordings. For 'phones, I primarily used the Ety ER-4P/S but I also...

Rio Karma 20 - Initial Thoughts

Up until this point I've only had minor gripes about the Karma, now I have a major one. Yesterday my Karma crashed for the first time but unfortunately was unrecoverable. I have a replacement now and will try to recreate the situation to see if I had a defective unit or I'm expecting more than...

    Napster is Back!

The new Napster leaves me disappointed. AFAIK you can only download music in WMA 128-bit format. Even the burn to CD feature just transcodes the WMA files. The DRM requires use of WMP (I think RealPlayer works as well) to play or transfer files to portable devices. Those devices must support...

Rio Karma 20 - Initial Thoughts

gbeard, The bottom, black portion of the docking base is solidly built and is a little heavy which anchors the Karma well to my desk. But due to its translucent plastic cradle I'd be concerned about throwing it in to my carry-on bag. Its not that the cradle seems too flimsy but the way it...

Sweet Spot, Have you used the Karma for any length of time? I thought you were still researching your options. I have only auditioned an iPod and evaluated the iRiver products online so I cannot comment on their ease of use or compare them to the Karma. I think it is important to live with...

It is likely that I'll write a more in-depth review but not until I've had a chance to live with the Karma for a month. Yes, Karma's Auto Gain Control is a dynamics processing feature. The three levels appear to compress more or less aggressively. I don't often use these types of normalization controls in ripping or playback so I can't comment on its effectiveness. Namaste, McE
