Interesting, I have the Bose NC 700's and while the noise cancelling on the Bose NC 700's is way better, the sound quality is definitely better on the KEF space one's.

Tested, yes, it appears to work fine with the battery removed (which makes sense as it can work with a flat battery without noise cancelling).

I weighed the kef space one I have, with a pair of kitchen scales but I could not find the basket for it. I approximated it to be between 320 and 330g (it was a bit larger than the scales base), so I'm assuming it's 316g without the cable attached and with a calibrated scale :)
