Onkyo DP-S1 Rubato / Pioneer XDP-30R Private
As far as I can tell, Onkyo's model and values places low emphasis on the types of behaviors you mention. As we would say in colloquial language, "they gave precisely zero f*cks about my predicament." This is a strong factor behind future purchases and recommendations for me.- DoctorGroove

The infuriating part for me is that my JP version cannot run the same firmware and apps as the NA version. If I had been cognizant of this in a more transparent way from the get-go, I would have gone another direction in my purchase. I hold out some hope that this is not set in stone...- DoctorGroove

I've found it somewhat "challenging" to find a decent case for the S1. The japanese websites are kind of tricky. My screen is getting a bit nicked up...that leather one looks really nice. If one could use that for the S1, and have a screen film or glass protector, that would be good indeed. For...- DoctorGroove

Anyone still looking for one of these? I have to make a decision on whether to upgrade, and selling the one I have is the key piece of the puzzle. Lightly used. Japan version.- DoctorGroove

Not at this point (I'm not sure what firmware updates will change about it). I generally use one of my other devices for Tidal.- DoctorGroove

If anyone is interested in buying a lightly used DP-S1, drop me a line. It's the japanese version. I'd like to get a different DAP.- DoctorGroove

I only have experience with the DP-S1. If Tidal offline is your main use case, I would get the cheaper option, which is probably the fiio.- DoctorGroove

This is very true. Onkyo/Pioneer has what seems like a weird customer support model. I bought an Onkyo DAP and can't even register it - neither the US nor the Japanese websites will accept the information. Onkyo customer service absolutely could not care less, with a tone that borders on surly...- DoctorGroove

Onkyo DP-S1 Rubato / Pioneer XDP-30R Private
Regarding product registration, I'm currently sensing that I'm going to get the runaround from Onkyo. I bought the unit from amazon.com, and am unable to register it on the Canadian or USA websites. Onkyo deferred me to the Japanese website, which I can't complete correctly. Is product...- DoctorGroove

The UI is not amazing here; the OS is not Android, and so you don't get the intuitive ease and familiarity of an android UX. However, it's very fast and responsive, and it is reasonably intutive to navigate and build playlists. I used Sandisk cards and formatted them exFAT 512k. The library scan...- DoctorGroove

Seeing some of these comments on scanning speed, does it make a difference what the formatting type is? I'm doing it in exFAT with a 512 k allocation...hope it works decently. Wifi firmware update was easy. Running version 1.04/1741AEO- DoctorGroove
