This 4 part interview is outstanding! Thank you for posting this here. Love the interviewer's modesty and honesty. Mr. Watts is uniquely generous with his time and explanations. Was pleased to hear Matlab mentioned and also interested his mention of the interpolation filter used to transition...- birdlandbill

This is further under the hood than I've ever been. Got me looking again into DSP texts, noise shaping, various probability distribution function dithers and other goodies. No pretense at fully understanding, just taking a crack at some of this with MatLab to see darkly through DSP looking...- birdlandbill

My experience with MscaledDaveUtopia as well. I'll try Uptone's EtherRegen as well, once the first runs are delivered. Alex Crespi and John Swenson are a remarkably talented and generous duo. Ray-Dude already has experience with this in an Mscaled Dave and previously reported it here.- birdlandbill

Nice comment re: Utopias and M-Scaler. Impact of M-Scaled Dave with Utopia headphones is striking, which has left me puzzled when folks say they don't hear a difference. An impact of the end stage sound reproduction element (leaving out ear/brain sound transduction)? Agree with you and Nomad...- birdlandbill

Thank you for reporting these results. So refreshing to hear from someone actually reporting results, rather than armchair opinions/personal attacks. Please share where you land after simplification. Your impression of effect of EtherRegen is what I hypothesized it might be and will be giving it...- birdlandbill

Wonderful, memory evoking note. Agree that live instruments not captured with sound reproduction systems. MDaveUtopia (Redbook or "high resolution") makes listening a joy, but still a facsimile. Have never heard of a live concert being cancelled due to or sardonic comments following the concert...- birdlandbill

Listened to both Wave Stream and Wave Storm in MDaveUtopia configuration. More detail in transients, particularly with bass when compared with Moon Audio Silver Dragon BNC cables. I know Mr. (Dr.?) Watts tried clip-on ferrites with MDave. I don't know if he has tried Wave BNC cables. Quoting...- birdlandbill

Qobuz (highest available signed bit value/sampling rate for appropriately engineered music, downloaded and streamed) and ripped CD's. Both wonderful to listen to. Store ripped/downloaded music on Innuos Zenith SE. Slight edge to downloaded equal bit/sampling frequency format, but thoroughly...- birdlandbill

Here's a pointer to the Wave High Fidelity site. I tried the Stream and the Storm and decided on the Storm, though the difference was much less than that between the Storm and the Moon Audio Silver Dragon BNC's. It was a difference I perceived as less fatiguing, which I attribute to greater...- birdlandbill

I blind-tested the Wave Storm against Moon Audio’s excellent Silver Dragon BNC and could hear greater bass detail, orchestral position information 80% of the time. Distinct improvement. Am very happy I purchased them. I don’t have “golden ears”, but hearing the improved sound with Wave Storm BNC...- birdlandbill

Much obliged for this excellent context-sensitive review. Finding speakers that fully complement HMS + Dave without requiring an amplifier seems completely relevant to this thread. I was curious about whether HMS + Dave ameliorated the speaker limitations. Sounds like it's a bit more...- birdlandbill

Some truth to this and definitely true that most listeners don't care overmuch about SQ, but most listeners aren't on this thread. Something kinda weird is that folks I know that play music professionally or with expertise don't get their knickers into a twist about SQ at all. Just want to hear...- birdlandbill

Then there's Mr. Watts, stating that the effect of going to 1Mtap gave rise to an unexpected improvement in SQ. This is borne out by many HMS + X listeners/buyers, including this listener/owner. Suggests keeping an open mind on things we poorly understand. I'm unconvinced that we are transducing...- birdlandbill

Had a nice chuckle imagining TSA agents looking at Chord's distinctive gear. Just look like trouble (wonder if they were inclined to disassemble or if x-rays were enough). Throw in ferrited BNC cables, we're talking definite explosives. Thank goodness for the interweb. You must be a smooth...- birdlandbill

Which Vox's? BTW, I tried the Abyss Phi 1266 powered by Simaudio Moon 430HA through Chord Blu 2 and Dave. Compared to Susvaras. The bass extension and sound stage detail/projection vertically and horizontally phenomenal with Abyss Phi. Made listening to the Susvaras pale in comparison. I'll be...- birdlandbill

The BIS GSO Sibelius recordings are all available on Qobuz, after all. Search Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and there it is, item 24 (with a forbidding Sibelius photograph staring out).
