Sennheiser HD590 or HD600? No amp.

The 590 sounds better out of my soundcard than does my 600. They are both extremely comfortable to wear. They BOTH sound infinitely better amped. If you only plan on buying one high-fi headphone and, perhaps, an amp I would strongly suggest you go with the 590. It works well unamped, has only...

    Worst Looking Headphones

Now that I think about, how about a pair of home made electrostatic headphones. I remember seeing pictures of those somewhere in past posts. NOW THOSE ARE THE UGLIEST HEADPHONES/HEADGEAR/HELMET IN EXISTENCE. The only thing that may stop people from ejecting endless laughter would be the...

    Worst Looking Headphones

One would look pretty bad sporting the CD3000 in public (unless you have a large pumpkin head). In fact, from a distance you might look alien (big body, shrunken head). I had no idea until someone posted pictures that the Sony is larger than the K1000. Two different kinds of ugly I guess.

SACD - The Only Logical Choice

The most logical format is one which has the music you want. Only one will and none of us will decide which one it is. My bet is on SACD or some new format not yet out. I think DVD-A has already lost the battle where it counts - at the corporate level. And none of this 'consumers decide what...

Another Thread about What is good for Gaming phones

I would NOT recommend Senn580/600. In my experience game use sounds best through brighter headphones. In the mist of gun fire, one wants to avoid any hint of a laid back sound.

    Help,quick! CD3000/W1000

Trance is phenomenal with the CD3000. It goes deep, gives it bright and has the depth which goes with any hypnotic mix. Than again, I have never heard the W1000 but I would recommend the CD3000 for trance over anyone of my other headphones. Just be sure to spend a lot of time and research...

Hooking up the AKG K1000 headphone to an amp question

You could purchase a Stefan AudioArt cable with a ¼” connector. http://stefanaudioart.com/K1000Cable.html Or, as I have heard some users write, make one yourself or have one made. I would be interested in reading what others might say about which common amps have the power to handle that...

Binaural samples to download if u please :)

I was very much into Binaural recordings … for about a week. The problem is THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. Most of the web sites dedicated to them no longer update; most of the CD's they talk about are no longer in print. I would be waving my wallet around in a second if I found a site offering...

Which of your headphones do you use most often?

Prob Senn590 because I use it for audio books,TV, and all-around toss-around use. As for the others, I use any one of them more on any given day for music but as I usually switch favorites each week, so as to give them equal attention, senn590 gets the most overall use.

    MP3 Player VS Mindisc Player

I bought a MD player several years ago. Never really used it. MP3 players, on the other hand, have been a blessing; I can't say I have ever had reason to regret using them. And ever since jukebox3, with its firewire, dual battery pack, 20 gigs, and line out, I have not thought of about another...

Potential CD3K purchase, but I have tons of ?'s and concerns:)

An EQ sounds like the best buy. And of course the CD3000 will boost the bass if you change your mind and spend money on a headphone. In my limited experience, I order the headphone as most important, the amp, as second, the source, as third, and the interconnects, as last. That's not to say...

    headphone comfort

I feel that the Senn570/590 headphone is slightly more comfortable and less furnace like than the Senn600/580 (but than again I don't have problem with either design). Unamped, though, you will have to spend a little more and get the 590 because, as Eagle_Driver points out, the 570s are just...

The necessity of headphones for classical music

I agree with the general trend of views - without an amp the HD600 isn't what others mean by HD600. Your HD600 was not the same headphone as the often quoted HD600 even though they share the same name. I listen most often to classical and opera and it strikes me these genres especially...

Since you may consider the Philips I would like to suggest also considering the Pioneer Elite DV-45A for a little under $400. Once again, I have not had it long enough to feel comfortable forwarding definite opinions but in a quick A-B test between it and the NAD C541-i, using matching...

I wish to comment on sibilance. The CD3000 more than any other headphone I have ever heard brings out the hiss. Of course this isn't the headphone causing the hiss but when listening to music the only thing that will matter is that the hiss is present - and boy is it present, in your face...
