    Hifiman Edition X

Wow, that sucks. The build quality (and a few sound preferences) are what compelled me to switch back to the HE-500 as my pair of planars. The HeX just felt like they were gonna snap in half in my hands. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to disassemble the unit enough to get into the terminal...

    Hifiman Edition X

Very nice! They're a great set of cans, enjoy them! Beast of an amp too.

    Hifiman Edition X

They would sound great with the THX 789, although the HEX don't need much power at all to drive properly. I wouldn't recommend tubes with them, I'd imagine the output impedance of most tube amps wouldn't work well with the HEX.

    Hifiman HE-6SE and HE-1000SE announcement-

Yeah, the HEX is a fantastic headphone but it feels like it might just shatter into dust when you put them on. If they could just get build quality right I feel like they would earn a big part of the market share in hi-fi really quick. They're already about there with the stuff they've got now...

    Fostex T60RP

    Gotcha. Thanks!

    Fostex T60RP

Creaking notwithstanding, how did the two compare soundwise? My first pair of real headphones was a pair of Mad Dog 3.2 and I wish I still had them now that my tastes are a bit more mature. The T60 seems like a decent alternative (or at least a starting point for some modding).

the big big PC transport thread!

There's going to be voltage regulation on the PSU, on the mobo, and probably on the device that is actually outputting the digital signal from the PC. Depending on your downstream components (dac) and whether or not they interact with the power from the PC at all (USB or otherwise), the effect...

I can't find headphones I like. Tell me what to try next please!

Oh shoot, I totally skimmed through that! The Elex drive pretty well amp-less and they're super punchy and dynamic. Plenty of bass as well. Soundstage and imaging are pretty solid too. Definitely the most "engaging" headphone I've heard in a while without anything too offensive in the treble.

What’s everyone using for desktop speakers?

LS-50s as my front L/R/Phantom Center with a Rythmik F12 with Wavecrest HVL-1 as surrounds, all driven by an Anthem MRX710 to help compensate for some tricky rooms.......I need to find someone who can come compare the Ascend Sierra II or some Genelec monitors to the LS50s, because those are the...

I would be shocked if it were noticeable in a blind test........

    knife-fi?

My EDC is a Kizer Ursa Minor, just a beautiful knife all around! I have smaller hands and it's just perfect. The little touches like the milled pocket clip are great as well.

I can't find headphones I like. Tell me what to try next please!

I'd also strongly recommend the HE-500, they check a whole lot of your boxes! Super engaging with just the right amount of treble sparkle. They love power, but it's well worth it.

Massdrop x Focal Elex Review & Measurements

........You should definitely get both if you can. They complement each other so well! Where the Elex are really punchy and attention-grabbing, the Edition X are smooth like butter and just super relaxing.

Massdrop x Focal Elex Review & Measurements

I purchased mine used so I didn't have to deal with anything, but you order it through Paypal on the Audio-GD website and they (eventually) ship it to you. It seems quite sketchy and I've heard that the wait can be pretty long for some people, but the products and their reputation speak for...

I'm running an NFB28 with mine and have absolutely no complaints!

Massdrop x Focal Elex Review & Measurements

I was curious how they match up to the Edition X V2, they seem quite different! The HEX is just so dang relaxing, but if you're listening actively they offer plenty of detail. Not heard anything quite like it, usually this characteristics come with a pretty dark sound sig.

Massdrop x Focal Elex Review & Measurements

I've just gotten my Elex in the mail today and they haven't left my head yet! For reference, I've made my way through a decent swath of mid-fi and I think I'm pretty satisfied with my current setup- an AudioGD NFB28 running HiFiMan Edition X V2, DT-1990, and now the Elex. I'm definitely...

After reading this I need to..

Exactly, when we do testing one of the most common comparisons people make is to a particular brand even if the product they are testing is nothing like the one they compare it to, often with great confidence. The brain takes the feeling of something and tries to associate it with something...

After reading this I need to..

Yeah, it's fun trying to find controls and trying to find a consistent way to articulate an observed phenomenon. I do research and development for a food science company, so this is something I deal with regularly when trying to account for different people's tastes and preferences (there's...

After reading this I need to..

Hmm, this is my first post on here after lurking for quite some time. I tend to believe that charts can give a quite good idea of what something is going to sound like, but that there are plenty of factors at play that aren't/can't be measured that have an effect on perceived sound. Am I...

    OHIO Meeting?Columbus/Cincy/Cleveland

Hey all, checking in from Athens, OH here! I didn't know there were local meets happening, but I'm certainly excited for the future! Hit me up if you're in the area; I don't know anyone as interested in audio stuff as myself here.
