Life after Etymotic ER-4p?
Again, thanks for everyone's replies. I'm thinking the options at APureSound, while beautiful and exciting, are a bit overkill for my applications (more overkill than a $50 cable replacement, anyway). From what I've been able to find out, this is where I go. While I wait for this to...- Danny Fekete

Life after Etymotic ER-4p?
Thanks very much for the response. That's heartening! I didn't realize the cables were removable---is this fairly easy to do? I don't have much expertise.- Danny Fekete

Life after Etymotic ER-4p?
Hi ho, folks. I've been using a pair of Etymotic ER-4p IEMs for the past few of years and have been gradually losing signal in the left monitor due to cable issues (when I twist the bulgy connection where the cable splits into the two monitors, I can temporarily get my sound back until the...- Danny Fekete

The HeadRoom of yore--brought to you by the Internet Archive Wayback Machine
HeadRoom's old, punchy reviews made for obsessive reading when I was getting into the hobby. I've been sad to see the direction they've gone. Thanks very much for this shot of nostalgia, Argyris.- Danny Fekete

Hearing Loss Question
(My apologies if this is off-topic. Most of the hearing-loss and hearing-preservation issues I've seen have been posted here.) We're looking into getting a silent dog whistle for our two-year-old boxer and, after lurking around Head-Fi for about two years, I'm predictably paranoid about...- Danny Fekete

Goofy issue with Sendstation AV
When in doubt, force it, apparently. From Sendstation: Quote: Danny, the PocketDock uses so-called 'friction latches', a latch mechanism introduced to the iPod by us in 2004 and now widely adopted, even by Apple itself. That said, it doesn't damage the iPod. To remove it from...- Danny Fekete

Goofy issue with Sendstation AV
Hi ho, folks. I feel like an idiot asking, but is there a trick to removing the Sendstation AV from my iPod (5.5 Gen)? It's got the little teeth that lock in there, but I can't see corresponding squeezy-buttons to retract them. I've applied more force than I'm comfortable with trying to remove...- Danny Fekete

PX 100 Appreciation
It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the PX100's are much more expensive in Canada. I've had a lot of luck with TigerDirect.ca, and can usually get them below $50 before shipping, though they intermittently stop carrying them. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...&sku=S302-1060...- Danny Fekete

PortaPro vs PX100
I'm on my third pair of PX100's, having lost two to my sister's cat. I've never tried the PortaPros, so I can't give you a comparison, but I can say, if there's one thing about the PX100's that I'm not crazy about (and it'd probably be the only thing), it's that they're too gentle on the head...- Danny Fekete

how to i prevent this??
Danz24, I wish I had the experience to help you out, but regardless, I imagine the flippant comments aren't a lot of fun. I've lost two pairs of PX100's to my sister's cats, and I wasn't in a particularly jovial mood when I saw the same sort of damage. Be patient---someone around here ought...- Danny Fekete

Seeking help connecting my Oppo DV970-HD to my Headroom Desktop
Hoy, folks. I picked up the Oppo DV970-HD as an entry into SACD playing, and was hoping to connect it to my Headroom Desktop Amp via digital coax. I'm sure that the cables are plugged into the correct ports, and I've got the Headroom Desktop set to Digital and Coaxial, but I'm not getting any...- Danny Fekete

Are JVC Marshmallows a Representative IEM Feel?
Thank you very much for your replies. Just a quick follow-up, then: Aevum mentioned that the Marshmallows are canalphones rather than IEMs. Is that in reference to the sound quality, or the physical configuration? (If the latter, what is the difference?)- Danny Fekete

Are JVC Marshmallows a Representative IEM Feel?
So, one of my sister's cats, in a fit of typical and adorable cathood, chewed through the cable of my beloved PX100's while I wasn't listening to them. Not horrible-horrible, considering that my K701's were about a foot away, but awfully irritating, like. I ordered a replacement pair after...- Danny Fekete

What Are These (Dynamic HD - 8/613?)?
That's tremendously weird. I've got an ancient pair that my dad used to own which look like they're from the same maker ("Futura" (obviously, since we all know that there's nowhere near that much chrome in the present)), except mine have cylindrical, rather than tapering cans. I haven't tried...- Danny Fekete

what is your first audiophile headphones?
From the lurky depths, I surface. Way back in the middle of high school, a classmate of mine who ran the radio booth brought in an amazing pair of headphones. I'd never heard that sort of clarity, and they rested much more gently on my head than I expected possible, coming from a history of...- Danny Fekete
