The PENON official thread
Don't worry about cables, invest the money into a better set of IEMs instead. The stock cables that Penon sells with their IEMs are great and going to have the exact same performance as more expensive ones. A tip since you are new here (and this is not specific to this thread or anyone here)...- Acuno

Interesting that Penon went with the 4 Sonion BAs on the low end, especially considering that was the weakest point of the Legends- Acuno

Legend is BA bass and it sounds pretty soft. Definitely the weak point of the IEM, I wish it had a DD on the low end. Pretty good bass resolution but it's a bit too mid-bassy for me on 020 or with the bass switch on. I listen exclusively 000 where there is minimal issue. Legend is an IEM for...- Acuno

From memory: DM1 is tuned closer towards neutral or warm-neutral whereas Vortex has probably +2-3 db to trebles in comparison. I thought the Vortex was more interesting to listen to even though I liked the overall signature less. Vocals are better on the Vortex. Better midbass punch/texture on...- Acuno

Introducing the Drop + Etymotic ERX In-Ear Monitors
What does this improve on or do differently from other models, such that current Etymotic owners would want to purchase it? I personally do not see anything compelling, but I am open to someone changing my mind.- Acuno

Listed a set of Vortex for sale in the classifieds. My observations/opinions: Strings are presented very well Stems are a bit short, so you might need longer tips These make the Serial redundant Extended, non-peaky treble. However, this pushes the mids back ever so slightly. Better mid-bass...- Acuno

One thing to keep in mind is that Penon's IEM tunings typically have a treble dip from ~5-7khz, Serial included. In my opinion, this removes fatigue but also takes some energy away from that range.- Acuno

I definitely agree that it can be hard to get a clear idea of what an IEM sounds like from impressions/reviews. Not many people can properly articulate what they are hearing, especially since audio is so subjective.- Acuno

In the future I would recommend doing your due diligence before purchasing an IEM, and at least put in the effort to check graphs. One glance at the EST50 graph would tell you it has +10db bass and that would be the dominant characteristic of the IEM.- Acuno

Serial: better female vocals, better detail, natural timbre, comparatively more balanced sound signature Globe: better imaging, more forgiving for badly mastered tracks, colored warm sound signature- Acuno

Yu9 Audio - U554 & U556 - A single BA powerhouse
Dang, 116Ω impedance on the U-556. Looks interesting. I've been using my ER3XRs forever now, and these have a pretty similar FR. A Sonion take on that might be worth checking out. How is the bass texture specifically on this set? The Legend tends to be a bit softer than ideal. Edit: Also, is...- Acuno

Imo Isabellae sounded like a $150 V-shaped IEM with some "premium" brand pricing applied. Very FiiO-esque sound, think FD3/FD5. Keep in mind that it was manufactured by the folks who want to charge people $6k for an IEM. Very airy (thin) upper mids/lower treble, with mid treble sibilance. Was...- Acuno

Legend is quite a bit different than the Serial. Serial sounds like a typical Harman IEM but less shouty. Legend is much fuller in lower mids/mid-bass. Warm, smooth, full-bodied, mid-centric. Much better spatial instrument placement and depth. Bass has better resolution but is noticeably BA bass...- Acuno

Hardest boss fight ever!
Agreed. Boss fights were a big step down from DS3. Despite there being a ton of boss content in Elden Ring, so much of the difficulty came from cheap design. Insta-kill anime attacks, input reading, huge AOEs, massive opponents with awful camera angles, attack stalling, etc. Plus the extreme...- Acuno

I'd recommend wide-bore tips, the included ePro tips are the best imo, and JVC spiral dots or Sedna light shorts would also be solid choices. Any cable will work fine, but if you want to change cable color etc check out XINHS on aliexpress. They make excellent cables at sane prices.- Acuno

Fun, colored lower mids/midbass, thick, smooth = Globe Neutral with sub-bass boost, excellent timbre, decent all-rounder = Serial I will say that the Globe was the best IEM I've heard for electronic/trance, although it is a bit lacking in the upper-mids department. Serial would be the pick that...- Acuno

It's not overly bassy, and it's not bright enough in the treble to be v-shape. More like neutral with sub-bass boost. Plus, different measuring rigs etc could be the difference in the graphs.- Acuno
