"Beats audio" - Explained. (Deliberately sounds BAD when switched OFF?)

Old thread for sure but still relevant. My HP DV7 quad core came with Beats built in. HATE IT!. It has been common knowledge (if you do your research) on HP's site that others have run into the same issue and HP would not fix it... In my case everytime I fire up Win7 Beats is disabled by default...

    MH40 but Sparkly

Have you thought to equalize the top end? All headphones have odd upper midrange/high end and most consider the solution by trying different cans to solve what they do not like about the ones they actually do like. Solution is to use a DSP based audio processor, be it a hardware solution or PC...

DAC popping noise after turning off?

I design speakers, my latest are active DSP based three way transmission lines. Damage can be done the first time it happens, so best check to hear if anything did happen. I normally leave my active crossovers on at all times to prevent the pop, they take very little power so not concerned, but...

Is there a lot of terribly mastered music out there or am I noticing something else?

99% chance it's crappy recording. Be it the choice by the producer or the engineer. There are some albums that should never be used for demonstration purposes or for critical listening. U2's Joshua Tree be it the original album, MFSL release or FLAC all are crap. Most of todays music is far too...

    MiniDSP everAMP

Quietly awaiting for this product to hit the market. I have several miniDSP products and know their value is very high. Using such would be a boon to tweaking out headphones, just like tweaking out our rooms and speaker designs. Levels the playing field and gets us just that closer to audio nirvana.
