    AirPods Max

AirPods Max teardown makes Sony and Bose headphones look ‘like toys’ iFixit is particularly fond of the headband hinge mechanism found between the band and the ear cups, which it notes can be detached “with just a SIM card removal tool or paperclip, without even opening the ear cup.” It calls...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Depends on the headphone imo. If I read the specs this Avantone has a sensitivity of 104 dB / mW and 32 Ohm. Very easy to drive. Would probably be a perfect companion for an iPod (Apple may update the iPod sometime this year) I have an old iPhone 6plus, with 3.5mm jack, which I use an audio...

. Yes, agreed, and it payed off big time. And nice to see a recording like this. I always advise people to watch ‘Pirates of Silicon Valley’ first, and then the keynote of Steve Jobs around 1997, where Jobs also introduces the cooperation with Microsoft (including Bill Gates on a huge screen)...

. Nice. Was also interested in comments, and saw this one :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ' HokeyBear This was actually a fairly disastrous response from Steve Jobs that really hurt the company. This was 1997, more than a decade before the iPhone, and the Apple Macintosh (the company's sole...

How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference

. something like this?: https://www.amazon.com/NewFantasia-Balanced-Compatible-NW-WM1Z-Stereos/dp/B07Z4V7BNH/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2LE1EZKGJFGGZ&dchild=1&keywords=newfantasia+4.4mm&qid=1609934744&sprefix=NewFantasia+4.4%2Caps%2C238&sr=8-6 Not sure if it fits. I recently bought a cable from this...

    AirPods Max

. And then you put an old Walkman with a modern ‘old school’ headphone against an iPhone + APM, and it all falls apart. It’s all about convenience. Same goes for smartphones versus DSLR’s/system camera’s. Smartphone camera’s don’t come anywhere near the quality of dedicated camera’s. And 95+%...

How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference

I for one am very pleased! Not having to worry about cables saves a lot of money! Possibly however, others don’t mind spending all that cash. Could be my own cultural bias, I’m Dutch:beerchug:

Out of curiousity, did you try the custom audio setup? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211218#custom-audio-setup For me it was quite an improvement And I agree with the reference to professional / high quality gear. I’m allready very impressed by the AKG 712 Pro which put’s my HD700 to shame...

    AirPods Max

I have a B&O H9 (first generation, if I remember correctly). Very comfortable headphone. And my ears are apparently a bit smaller. Soundwise imo problematic, a lot of pressure from the noice cancelling and the tuning was so so for me. But, it did for what I bought it for, and it’s an older...

    AirPods Max

Closed headphones... Possibly a Shure SRH1540 might be more comfortable, but still closed. Closed headphones have their advantages, but they will get warm by design. The APM clamping force reminds me of the Sennheiser HD600 & 650. Easily solved, though I dare not try it on the APM, someone else...

Yes, all those cables, connectors, it’s a mess. I have my own simplification program at home  Reduce the amount of devices, less remote controls, more all-in-ones, go wireless, fewer different brands etc

    AirPods Max

. Imo USB-C is an example of ‘design by commitee’. An improvement over the past for sure, but its still not there yet. And I suspect Apple would love to dump both lightning and usb-c. Less (cables) is more. By the time the USB-Committee does arrive, we don’t need ‘m anymore. In the mean time...

Should have added a price point for open wireless headphones, like 500-600 dollar/euro. It’s the mass market which is being taken over by a few players, Apple being the most prominent. The 1000,- + market is certainly another matter. One of the things I have come to believe is that Apple...

    AirPods Max

This imo is were all this is going, already probably 99% true for the mass market, and now creeping into the enthusiast market: wireless / amp-less headphones. The more traditional manufacturers either adept, or they will go the way of the dodo. They could, like Hifiman, introduce an wireless...

The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

Two headphones arrived this week. Very different headphones and ‘USP’s’. Very happy with both. Very surprised though with the AKG 712. On a dac/amplifier it sounds much better then expected. First impression (!) is that it puts my Sennheiser HD700 and Audioquest Nighthawk Carbon to shame :hushed:

    AirPods Max

May have missed it in this fast going thread, but I found a well hidden option to tune the sound a bit. Not sure if its the iPhone which is tuned, or the APM, and if you move to for example an iPad the tuning will be there as well.. anyhow, its under accessibility. And then custom audio setup...

    AirPods Max

Cables are a HUGE pain in the ass. Not so much the cables themselves, but every freakin company having different connectors. Would like to have a alternative cable for my Audioquest, instead off that coperized waterhose Audioquest used ( a cable-voodoo company themselves). And not have to look...

    AirPods Max

agree on the second part. And I don’t actually want to be defending Apple, they can sort that out themselves I actually decided today not to buy a APM. It’s the kind of headphone which I would use at home, not for travel or office. For travel I have a very nice cabled in-ear set. And even a...

but what’s the percentage of buyers who use a case. People assume a lot, but I think it’s very likely Apple will have quantified this. and about alternatives:

Most people probably never actually use a case, so adding one would just be a huge waist of money and material. I have a few which I never used. I just put the portable headphone I have in the front of my backpack when travelling, good enough and takes less room (travelling, pre-corona) Apple...

How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference

Carl Sagan in ‘The Demon Haunted World’; “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to...

Help with recommendations for a desktop audio player (windows).

I have been using foobar for a long time, but tired of having to invest time to set it up. Still use it, but only by exception. I like MusicBee a lot And if youre able and willing to spend some serious cash, Roon is definately the best audio player I have ever experienced.
