What was your 1st Portable Music Player? (Please read rules)
Quote: Hello labrat! Nice to hear someone paid more than me for one! :) After about 10 years of use, mine started playing slower and slower and finally stopped working altogether and I put it away. I pulled it out about 2 years later and took it apart and found out that like most cassette...- Gene

What was your 1st Portable Music Player? (Please read rules)
Sony Walkman TPS-L2 that I purchased new in August 1979. Looked just like RASeymour's knock-off above but was the real thing and cost $199.99 in 1979 dollars! I rode to work and back every morning and all over the Western U.S. listening to that thing on my motorcycle. It was a marvel at the time...- Gene

How Many Are Still Using 1st Gen. Shuffles?
I have the Gen. 2 Shuffle but it doesn't touch the SQ of my two 1st gen Shuffles. I just love the SQ of the old ones. How many of you still have and are still using the 1st gen Shuffles?- Gene

Quick Impressions: Shuffle 1G and 2G
For me the G1's SQ wins and the volume goes much higher. Am I the only one who notices how much higher the volume goes on the G1 vs. the G2? I'll never get rid of my G1 but I love the tiny size of the G2 and the clip is nice and I've never noticed any hiss. I usually use both with Sporta Pros...- Gene

Quick Time Upgrade Erased All My Music On iTunes!
Sparky, Unfortunately, I didn't but I will now! I've never had a problem with iTunes until this. I have no idea how a Quick Time upgrade erased my iTunes library but it did. Apple has no idea what could have happened either. In Apple's defense, they did offer to replace my iTunes...- Gene

Quick Time Upgrade Erased All My Music On iTunes!
Yup, it seems they were. I followed Apple's recommendations for retrieving my library from my hard drive and there was nothing there. It's so frustrating as all I did was follow a prompt from Apple about the available upgrade and my files were gone!- Gene

Quick Time Upgrade Erased All My Music On iTunes!
I use Windows XP and was online a couple of days ago and a window popped up from Apple saying there was an upgrade for Apple's Quick Time player and iTunes and asked if I wanted to upgrade? I clicked "yes" and it started the upgrade and then completed it. Later I tried to go on iTunes to...- Gene

1gb DAP for gym use.
Man, I guess I'm out of touch but I see where gyms, (as in the '70's and '80's), are the place folks spend all their time nowadays. What goes around comes around! I think the Gen2 Shuffle would be fine for your use especially if you sweat in the gym when you would hear hiss just because...- Gene

has the ipod shuffle the same sound quality as Nano
What sounds good to one person and not good to another is a subject that will never be decided unless you hear from hundreds to thousands of opinions. Even then, you may have a different opinion from all of them because YOUR EARS can be the ONLY judge! The concensus here and everywhere else...- Gene

New Shuffle Gen2 Sure Takes A Long While To Charge!
I have 2 old, original Gen1 Shuffles, (512 and 1GB). They still charge up quicker than the brand new Gen2 Shuffle I have. I'm using a wall charger instead of the USB charger. I can't believe how long it takes for the Gen2 Shuffle to charge up. Anyone else notice this?- Gene

Please Tell Me What's The Big Deal With The New Shuffle?
I was really happy with my original Shuffle, (Gen1), and would have never bought the new Gen2 Shuffle on my own. Low and behold, my best friend bought a Gen2 Shuffle as a surprise gift to me. I have to admit, this thing is so tiny that it's almost unbelievable and I will admit, the clip is...- Gene

ipod shuffle 512mb refurb for $35shipped from apple
I totally agree with with blessingx and I've been saying it for awhile now. The Gen1 Shuffles are INCREDIBLE for SQ and output. I just received a Gen2 Shuffle as a gift and it's a marvel of micro size and the clip is so cool but the Gen1 blows it away in sound and output! My Gen1 ain't going...- Gene

Volume On Gen2 Shuffle Isn't As Great As Gen1
LaBreaHead, If the backdating is possible for the Gen2, PLEASE explain how to do it! I compared the Gen2 with Gen1 with the same song and the Gen1 is at least 25% louder.- Gene

Volume On Gen2 Shuffle Isn't As Great As Gen1
Yes, I remember those lawsuits claiming iPods were destroying everyone's hearing and that's why they offer a volume limiter now. I'm pretty sure I have all the upgrades but I'll check it out anyway.- Gene

Volume On Gen2 Shuffle Isn't As Great As Gen1
Let me start by saying I'm an older guy and my hearing isn't near as good as most of you younger guys. I received a Gen2 Shuffle as a gift yesterday and I can tell you the volume is only about 75% of the Gen1. That disappointed me as I like things that will play LOUD to compensate for my lousy...- Gene

So did the gen 2 shuffle SQ problems get resolved?
Sorry, I don't know what the latest firmware is now. All I know is when I connected it to iTunes yesterday and in setting it up, it said there were upgrades for the Shuffle and downloaded them into it. My hearing isn't the best but on pause or playing the Gen2, I hear no hiss or background...- Gene

Is There A AC Charger For The Shuffle Gen2?
zip, That's a nice solution! As for the charging, the generic charger worked great and charged it up in about half the time of the USB port way. All they'd have to do is add a swing-out pin connector to the wall charger and then it would easily charge both the Gen1 and Gen2 Shuffles.- Gene

So did the gen 2 shuffle SQ problems get resolved?
I just received one yesterday as a gift. When I hooked it up and went to iTunes, there were two new upgrades that popped up for the Gen2 Shuffle. They were downloaded automatically into the new Shuffle and I hear no hissing whatsoever.- Gene

Is There A AC Charger For The Shuffle Gen2?
Hey thanks zip! I have one of the generics for my Shuffle Gen1. Hopefully there will be one without the Gen2 docking station and cord that will plug directly into the Gen2 and AC wall socket. There's still some things to be said about the Gen1 Shuffle and it's built in USB.- Gene

Please Tell Me What's The Big Deal With The New Shuffle?
Well, it looks like the clip on the new Shuffle won out! Too bad as I don't go to a gym like everyone here does, (I'm really sorry but I don't!), because if I did, I'd like this little sucker! I guess I should join a gym to appreciate this new Shuffle and that's why I should like it more than...- Gene

Please Tell Me What's The Big Deal With The New Shuffle?
I'm one of the rare and few here that doesn't go to a gym but if I did, the old Shuffle wouldn't be too hard to deal with. Put my music on "shuffle", hang it from my neck under my shirt and work out. Or get a big rubber band and strap it to my arm! I'm really not being synical here, I just...- Gene

why i love the shuffle
Couldn't agree with you more my friend! See my other post concerning the new Shuffle. The Shuffle was my first foray into DAPs and I was intimidated with all the choices. I wanted something SIMPLE to use that was also rugged. I didn't care about screens, (delicate), that listed what I was...- Gene
