Astell & Kern - Zero Customer service. Beware

Hello. I need hardware support for SP2000. The Bluetooth module is very sketchy. Rarely stays connected and if I touch the wheel or get my hand near it, the connection stutters or drops and it happens with multiple BT devices all of which work flawlessly with my iPhone, etc. Any...

Does RCA switcher degrade audio quality?

A work of art indeed! Also, I approve of your choice in trackballs! I have MX Ergos everywhere!

ifI iCan Pro - Impressions & Discussion

Not sure in reality. I have the signature Pro iCan and have used LCD-5s on both the 4.4mm and the 4-pin XLR and noticed no difference whatsoever. I have not used my Ultimate Ears 18 IEMs with this amp but I suspect the difference in phone impedance would drop the effective output power of the...

Converting MP3 to Flac good or bad idea?

    Excellent idea.

Converting MP3 to Flac good or bad idea?

The why is unknown to me but I suspect that the gurus at Denafrips must have known something when they offered the oversampling vs. non-oversampling mode on their DACs. And, yes, it sounds different, more pleasing, or it could just be confirmation bias on my part.

Converting MP3 to Flac good or bad idea?

My Denafrips Terminator+ DAC allows files to be oversampled on the fly. For example, and MP3 file can be over-sampled to the maximum rate the DAC can handle which is PCM1411.2 or PCM1536. I do like the oversampled sound on many files. I understand this is not the same process as converting...

iFi audio iCAN Phantom - Vanish into the music!

What would have sealed the deal for me would have been an output to connect directly to the implant that was recently installed in the back of my head that bypasses all of the biological material, i.e., tympanic membranes, malleus, incus, stapes, etc., that have begun to fail over my life here...

iFi audio Pro iDSD (Official) - NEW Firmware - MQA and more.

That's pretty cool and good to know. I am not sure of the topology in the iFi design but I am guessing they use some sort of self biasing scheme so there is no big deal swapping different valves in and out.

I’ve never used the tubes much at all. Did you replace the tubes with a different type or manufacturer or because they “got old”? If because they got old what change in the sound quality did you notice?

*iFi Audio, I am really tempted to try this new amp out. Question? Does you company have a satisfaction guarantee on the sale of their products?

iFi audio Pro iDSD (Official) - NEW Firmware - MQA and more.

Roger that and, by the way, it looks as though I may "have" to replace my PRO iCAN Signature! That Phantom looks "splendifirous" and I've always wanted to get back into electrostatics ever since I owned some self-powered early era Koss ESP-6A phones back in the early 1970s..

I always liked coaxial over optical. Give each interface a try and see which one you prefer.

You're welcome. As I recall my remote did not have a battery in it either but we don't have protections in the US like you seem to have in the UK.

The back of the remote details what battery you need (CR2025). Here is a pic for your use. Positive toward the back side of the remote as pictured. (PS. I don't think you could shoe-horn a CR2032 in there.)

Does RCA switcher degrade audio quality?

I am considering using this switch box to switch the low level moving coil cartridge output from my turntable to either input of the two phono preamps I have; one for sending to my main listening system and the other is a digitizing preamp for ripping vinyl. As long as the leads are kept short...

DACs - no strong opinion. It's just a chip. Not if your DAC is an R2R DAC like a Denafrips

I used the iCan Signature directly into my power amps for a while. It sounded just fine and, yes, the balanced outputs benefit from the tube function.

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I took a slight different approach to implementing "fully wireless" IEMs. I took my Ultimate Ears 18 IEMS, had a custom short balanced cable made for them with a 4.4mm TRRRS balanced connector and plug it into the iFi Go Blu portable DAC/amp. Great sound if not completely wireless.

So, is there better DIY headphone cable than Cardas 4-24 AWG?

I now use and recommend Mogami 2552. It's a stereo microphone pair of cable laid out "lamp" zip cord fashion so that there is absolutely no cross-channel "bad stuff" going on particularly in a longer cable. It's not as flexible as some of the others mentioned hear but it sure sounds fine and...
