Bowers&Wilkins new flagship the P9!
Quite a subtle difference would you say? I noticed no difference at all, which was surprising. I'd love to try the mojo but I'm not paying £400 for it...- CluelessAudio

I tried both spotify premium and tidal hifi. Couldn't tell a difference between spotify or tidal when using the dac or not. Guess my ears are terrible. I don't think rock/metal music gets improved much by high end audio equipment. That's my theory anyway :p- CluelessAudio

Has anyone else tried it with a mac? Noticed no difference with my DFR on a 2014 Macbook Pro. Would love to try a mojo but if people say it's only a bit better than a DFR which made no difference... I don't have much hope.- CluelessAudio

None, I use none with my P9s too. I tried the Dragonfly Red with my Macbook Pro but it made zero difference. I guess macs have good dacs/amps. Saves me £170.- CluelessAudio

If the red is miles better, and to me makes zero difference with B&W P9s on a MacBook Pro, what does the black sound like? Might even be worse than the macs dac/amp ;)- CluelessAudio

Don't worry! It's not your fault I'm hard of hearing :p I'll keep an eye out for any other dacs by Audioquest in the future, they can only get better, i hope.- CluelessAudio

It definitely should improve the audio from a phone as the dac/amp will be average to poor, but from my mac, it made no difference. I also think rock/metal improves very little from dacs and high end headphones. Or maybe just ignore everything as i'm deaf.... :P I'd definitely try it, you can...- CluelessAudio

Macs unsurprisingly have better dac/amps than a windows laptop. Particularly as they are geared as media creation devices. The difference as a result will be bigger for a windows laptop.- CluelessAudio

Yes, there is no difference with B&W P9s and my 2014 Macbook Pro. I tried spotify and tidal, no difference to either. I've packed the DF Red up and will be returning it today. I guess the mac has a good built in dac and amp. Quite disappointed after all I've read but nevermind.- CluelessAudio

I read OTL amps were for hard to drive headphones, not sure how true that is. I'd love to try several different kinds of amps back to back with my P9s but it's just not possible to do that as far as i'm aware. The Dragonfly Red is the first amp i've ever tried with any pair of headphones and it...- CluelessAudio

I've been testing the DF Red through my macbook pro with the P9s are these are my thoughts (also posted in the DF thread): Doing some final testing before I decide whether to get my DF Red or take it back. I've let it 'run in' for about 36 hours since I got it, and my P9s have been used for over...- CluelessAudio

Doing some final testing before I decide whether to get my DF Red or take it back. I've let it 'run in' for about 36 hours since I got it, and my P9s have been used for over 100 hours since I got them. I still can't tell if it makes the music sound better or it's the placebo effect. I'm not sure...- CluelessAudio

Battery and the technology takes up too much space. Once you take off the pads, the actual P9 earcups are incredibly thin. I have the P7W too but haven't listened to them much yet as I've been using the P9s but they are just incredible. Such a clean and detailed sound. The bass is definitely...- CluelessAudio

Macs supposedly have good dacs/amps, much better than windows computers anyway, and better than an iphones for sure. I'll let it burn it and see how it is. Perhaps I'd keep it if it was the black verison for £90, but not at £170- CluelessAudio

Embrace the bass! I don't mind the bass hump. It's definitely noticeable compared to my wired P7s. Haven't tried my wireless P7s much yet so can't compared to them. I felt the bass was lacking on my wired P7s so I don't mind it. But i 100% understand why some people don't, now i've got the P9s...- CluelessAudio

Both. I have spotify premium and have tidal on trial. I can't notice a difference between them without the DF Red, and the DF doesn't help me distinguish either. I guess I'm part deaf. It's the only explanation.- CluelessAudio

My wired P7s (now 3 years old) took weeks before they got really comfortable. Give it some time and you won't even know they're on your head.- CluelessAudio

I'll leave it on overnight this weekend. That's what i've been doing with my P9s. Maybe it doesn't suit rock/metal as much as other genres. But either way it will have to improve fourfold to make me keep it.- CluelessAudio

Just got the DF Red. Can't notice a huge improvement in sound on my 2014 Macbook Pro, sounds ever so slightly clearer (i think, probably just imagining it). It does help the bass a tiny bit. Is it worth £170? Not a chance imo. I guess what I read about macs having decent dacs. Not sure whether...- CluelessAudio
