SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

As you already pointed out, once you open them from BestBuy you can’t return them. You’re already waiting for people on here to give you enough information in doing research to make a decision before opening the cans. Why not return them and wait a little bit longer to get them from Amazon? That...

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

Given your criteria I would return these to BestBuy and then re-buy them from Amazon so you can return them after actually trying them. They will keep your ears warm, but if you get into sub-zero temperature land you may start experiencing the random Siri/Google Assistant invocations which I...

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

I wonder if maybe Sony sources certain components from different vendors, such that some units are fine and others are not.

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

A small side note here; it was mentioned a while back that the XM3’s remember the EQ settings when switching devices. When switching between my iPhone and iPad, this is true. However, as soon as I connect to my Mac it nukes the setting. Listening on the Mac just uses the stock EQ. When I...

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

Good question, I’ll try if it happens again. Listened to music on the train for 45 minutes with no issues after my above comments. Stepped out into the cold and 5 minutes later the song I was half way through listening to started over again. Part of me thinks it’s actually me causing this...

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

I stand corrected. I was walking home from work and the wind was quite strong with a temperature of -6° C. While listening to my podcast I suddenly heard the Siri "do-do" activation prompt as if I had activated the voice assistant, which I did not. After a moment my podcast resumed playing...

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

Same here. Haven’t used them extensively but walking outside for 30 minutes today with strong wind and light snow (bordering on hail) and didn’t have any issues. Though now I worry about snow making its way into the microphone ports that face upwards.

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

@ryanmatic are you still using this EQ? I just picked up the XM3’s and am gonna give them a shot. I’m in the iPhone camp so will be using AAC and am playing around with the EQ . I just listened to School by Supertramp with your EQ settings above. I closed my eyes, ANC on, and it was really...

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

I gave the M2’s a trial run and experienced this, so I don’t think it’s a regression in behavior. Even walking with them outside would cause slight variations when my feet hit the ground with each step. While listening to podcasts, whoever was talking would get ever so slightly louder and softer...

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

Seems like it doesn’t according to this review, which lists the only con as “Can’t connect to more than one device at a time” https://www.digitaltrends.com/headphone-reviews/sony-wh-1000xm3-review/

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

This is hilarious ^_^ But is the bass really that bad out of the box? I read and watched a number of reviews and formed an initial impression that these are *the* ANC cans to get. But then I came over here to get the real scoop and everyone is crapping all over the XM3’s when listened to with...

Master & Dynamic MW50+ Convertable On & Over Ear Wireless w/ Beryllium

I wonder how M&D is trying to position these headphones amongst their lineup. For example, why would I buy the MW60 as over-ear cans if I can get the MW50+? Or another thought exercise would be: if they release an MW60+ with over and on-ear pads, upgraded to USB-C, with beryllium drivers, why...

Master & Dynamic MW50+ Convertable On & Over Ear Wireless w/ Beryllium

Yeah ANC on the PX made them sound pretty terrible. How do you find the different ear pads on the MW50+’s? Do the on-ears sound better/worse/same compared to the over-ears? Are there any current reviews that you felt accurately represent your experience?

Master & Dynamic MW50+ Convertable On & Over Ear Wireless w/ Beryllium

Well that’s great to hear! I ordered a pair from masterdynamic.com last week but haven’t received a tracking number of any sort. I’ve also tried the Beoplay H9i - for me the highs were just too much. And ANC didn’t work when walking (it would magnify every step with a boomy noise). The B&W PX...

Master & Dynamic MW60 Impressions Thread

Hey simonm, I know doing reviews takes a lot of time. I’m strongly considering the MW60’s and was curious if you were going to post your review. Or if perhaps you had some additional comments since Feb. I don’t understand why threads like the B&W PX have hundreds of posts but the MW60 has just...

Master & Dynamic MW50+ Convertable On & Over Ear Wireless w/ Beryllium

I'm rather amazed there isn't more activity on this thread for the MW50+ headphones. I read another review at The Verge which claims the over-ear pads degrade sound quality, which is in contrast to the heaphonereview.com review. Is there anyone here who owns these cans who can help clarify...

I also had this issue, and was one of the reasons I returned them. I described it as the sound you hear when someone taps a microphone, but I think it’s the same thing as you’re describing. Mine was also only with ANC enabled, like your second pair. No, your expectations are not too high. You...

B&O H9 Discussion and Impressions thread

It's honestly largely dependent on the source material. A lot of older recordings are much quieter than a lot of modern ones, so you gotta crank 'em if you want to get goosebumps on that song you know to make it the difference between "I can hear this" and "this is a perfect moment".

I tried this as well. Initially I felt it improved the sound signature dramatically. But the more time I spent listening to this tuning, the more I noticed that the lower frequency bass was more accentuated than I was used to. I would hear low bass notes that would “pop” out of the music - but...

I’m very intrigued at the comments comparing the H9i with the H8i. I suppose I need to audition the H8i myself, but does anyone else have any opinions between the two? Specifically on what some people have said around the highs not being so pronounced on the H8i’s? I’ve never considered a pair...

I emailed B&O support about this exact thing. Every time the device is powered on, ANC is enabled, and you can’t change this. Here’s their response: “In regards to your question, unfortunately, currently there isn't a way to keep the ANC always off, therefore, you will have to manually turn it...

B&O H9 Discussion and Impressions thread

After much A/B testing, casual listening, and sadness I decided to box up my H9i’s. I had already submitted a return request before seeing this review by TheGamingAudiophile, and interestingly it was for the very same issue the reviewer mentions: excessive treble. I completely agree with...

B&O H9 Discussion and Impressions thread

I measured my H9i's and got just shy of 3.5" (9 cm) for the outer diameter, and 1 7/8" (4.7 cm) for the inner ear space diameter. I did this with a tape measure, not a micrometer, so I might be a mm or two off :)

B&O H9 Discussion and Impressions thread

I’m completely speculating here, but to me the sound gets more V shaped when ANC is turned on, with mids reduced. When I’m listening to music on the H9i’s with ANC on, and then turn it off, the sound signature changes in the same way it changes on my other wired headphones when I switch from...

B&O H9 Discussion and Impressions thread

I agree that there’s no distortion at “fairly healthy listening volumes.” When you max out the volume though, on some tracks it’s evident. It’s not like every song is distorting all over the place, it’s only certain moments in a song. I thought the initial report of this was a bit crazy but at...
