The problem is that tube amps usually have a much higher output impedance than SS amps, and because of this, unwanted levels of distortion can arise when used with low impedance phones. While (I don't believe) Schiit doesn't release the output imepdances for their amps, I would guess this is why...

Having some trouble getting this setup. When I go into the ASIO config there is a red X by the "USB Audio option" when selecting the device. I've looked around and others are using ASIO with the D1. Anyone know where I might be going wrong?

There is no difference in sound quality. If you have a ton of songs, it may take longer to load your library and begin playback of songs with an external, but the convenience is nice.

I would look at Denon AH-D1100 or if you can find a great price, AH-d2000. Grados simply won't work portably, everyone for a mile around will be able to hear what you're listening to.

Set it to the maximum your DAC can support. Most audio is 16 bit, but some SACD and HD tracks are 24 bit. In either case it's quite hard to tell a difference.
