6HM5 works in EF95 setting. Don't use the other jumper settings with 6HM5. As for the tall variant vs the small or vs WE-408A. Maybe someone else can help there. I've only used the tall variant.

How much does good does getting a quality dac make? I am simply running off my Auzentech Prelude with a LT1364 Opamp in it. It gets bright easily no matter what OPAMP is in there. Is that the DAC doing that?

Maybe get the OPA2107AP and Mullard 8100 to tame your treble. I had problems with the treble as well but I use the LT1364 and 6hm5 El Yugos at the moment mostly for sound stage but its not a very warm setup.

I've found in my personal experience that its much better to let the Little Dot I+ do as much of the amplification of the signal as possible because it does such a good job at it with good tubes and a good opamp. So yeah like others said, just drop the source volume, and let the Little Dot do...
