The light colored ones look cool new but it is true that they get dirty really fast. I've seen some that were barely used and were already stained on the headband. Not the easiest thing to clean either. I went with Navy because I felt it was stylish but also hides wear well

Thanks for input. Damn I just got RMA info and local repair center is backed up a full month. I guess I'll return them to the retailer, but there is a good chance I won't be able to get a replacement unfortunately. A month is IMO unacceptable for a repair.

If you are in an even slightly noisy environment, the closed back will have a vastly higher SNR and arguably better sound - at least for the HD820 vs HD800S. That is why they make the HD820 in the first place. Also you can't just compare the graphs 1:1 due to the differences in psychoacoustics...

Basically, they are the closest thing you can get to the HD800S in a closed back, when you can't be in a quiet environment. That's pretty much their reason to exist.
