Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

We haven't seen or read from Mike Moffat lately. Is he retiring or is he also headed to Texas?

I actually liked the interface (integrated Android TV) on the Sony much better. The LG interface sucks. So now I use an Nvidia Shield. But, 18 months in and the LG has outlasted the Sony. I get the irony though because I know LG supplies the panels for Sony OLED TVs.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

It's funny how individual experiences can vary. The one brand I absolutely avoid at all cost: Sony. My family had tonnes of Sony gear in the 1980's. Virtually all of it failed within 10 years, much of it much quicker. Our experiences with Sony were so bad that I avoided Sony for over two...

IMO, Teslas are wildly overpriced for what they deliver. It is no surprise that Tesla has one of the largest profit margins in the automotive world.

Kudos to that! I've stopped reading some threads because anyone who disagreed with the moderator about anything or had unfavourable comments to share about site sponsors got banned. No point wasting time on that sort of discussion forum.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Funny - I also changed the received chip and filter chip to the newer versions to achieve 24/96. I remember running into a snag with the filter chip replacement. I think I had to add some logic to either invert the clock signal on the filter input or delay it a cycle. It's been a few years...

Incidentally, the setup in my office is: Bifrost 2/64 -> Lokius -> Asgard 3 -> Aegir 2 -> Yamaha NS-690II This is a small room and the Aegir is much better suited to this environment. It sounds awesome and the bass kicks hard when you're not overdriving the Aegir like in my larger rooms.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

One nitpicky point about the whole Aegir 2 experience, now that I have moved it into my office system: It'd be nice if, when you placed an Asgard on top of it to use as a preamp, the rubber feet of the Asgard sat on the frame of the Aegir and not the heatsink. 😁

LOL. Here in Canada, I've seen the package status change to "delivery attempted" with no notice on the door. I have security cameras, so I knew the FedEx guy didn't even come. He just changed the status without attempting delivery.

IMO, Eitr was one of the best products Schiit ever made. There are still competing products on the market for 5-10X the price, but why? I get that all Schiit DACS have Unison built in, but many people are using older Schiit DACS they don't want to go through the trouble of upgrading, old DACS...

I'm very curious about the Tyrs, but it's a huge $$$ commitment when it probably won't provide an "upgrade" over the Yamaha B2. I live in Canada, so we need to add exchange, mega-tax, etc. It becomes a ~$5200 commitment for Canadians ordering Tyrs. I know a guy online who bought a couple of...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Got my Aegir 2 today! And I tried it out in my basement system, which normally looks like this: Raspberry Pi running Ropieee -> Schiit Eitr -> Adcom GDA-600 -> Schiit Lokius -> Schiit Freya N -> Yamaha B2 -> Yamaha NS-1000M All the vintage components in that chain were substantially rebuilt...

Order placed for Aegir 2. While it will most likely replace the G-Horn in my office setup, I am going to put it up against my beloved Yamaha B2 just for kicks. Stay tuned. 😁

We misplace those manuals after a week and then just refer to them online anyway. IMO, no need to include them.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Any DAC I've ever switched discrete opamps into (like Sparkos) improved noticeably in sound. I have an old ADCOM GDA-600 PCM63 based DAC here that I rebuilt and swapped in Sparkos opamps. The thing is sublime and only my Yggdrasil OG A2 beats it - not so much on enjoyment, but the Yggy just...

His point was that it isn't discrete. It uses opamps.

My Yggy has undergone many upgrades over the years, from OG A1 to OG A2 to Yggy+ (chassis) and also to USB5 and then Unison. I also bought LIM boards and listened to them for 6 months. I then switched back to OG A2 after 6 months and, to my taste, OG A2 is vastly superior to LIM. LIM sounds...

I read a couple of his reviews a few years ago and quickly starting avoiding his reviews. It's like the author is on a relentless mission to prove to himself how smart he is. Even if you understand what he's writing, it's still annoying.

Yeah, but you need the $4,000 version that is blessed by a Rabi after it's been buried in the arctic permafrost for 30 days. They sound better.

I don't believe FedEx has any authority to register against your credit rating. It's not a financial institution and they don't offer credit services.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

FedEx is famous for these unauthorized, after-the-fact charges that show up in your mail box. I ignore them. You may end up with a collections agency calling your house for awhile, but you can easily block the calls. Really, they aren’t going to do anything about chasing you for $200 you...
