[2021 Update] Venture Electronics (VE) Monk V2, Monk Plus & Monk Go: a $5 earbud that taking the world by storm!!!

Could someone please point me where I can find out WHERE & HOW to place the Monk Ear Hooks (and how to keep them from slipping off?)

    Economical earphone suggestion

Have/had both the senn and Pan...can't go wrong with either (EXCEPT the cx200 hasn't been made for years, so be wary of fakes online. Also, some claim the HJE120 isn't the same quality it used to be, but the current model still gets raves, including from me). I might spring for the y20 soon...

    Binaural Recordings

I've amazed how my virtual plug n' play DR-05 and Roland set up gives me live recording that sound better than a lot of jazz CDs I've heard.   Here is a small trio set: https://soundcloud.com/lad3-2/sets/reed-trio   Here is my favorite collection of nature recordings, made in Australia  ...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Looks like I missed my chance for a lovely pair of braided Candys!

[2021 Update] Venture Electronics (VE) Monk V2, Monk Plus & Monk Go: a $5 earbud that taking the world by storm!!!

I was hoping I could get one this AM! Well, when everyone says Monks are worth far more than they cost, they'll demonstrate it!

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

Is there an online survey about who actually notices the slow playing error? (My guess is that it would be skewed by those who claim to notice it!) (I read that for decades, MIle Davis' classic "Kind of Blue" album frustrated musicians who thought they were off-pitch -  because the studio tape...

    The Monoprice MP9927 PG 208.. MP8320 (MEP-933)..The $7.11 club..

So far, I've not been bowled over but the dual-driver IEMs I've tried, I'm back to the good ole 9927s!

Philips SHE3580/3590 vs Monoprice 8320/9927 vs SoundMagic E10

I'm glad I caught these threads, because I've been caught up in all the Soundmagic hype too. If they sound no better than the Monoprice, they're not worth it to me at this point - even if they're better built.

Panasonic HJE120... terrible. What else to replace Monoprice 9927?

After also falling for all the intense hype surrounding the HJE120s, I would rate them as about the very dullest, well-reviewed budget IEMs I ever tested so far. So much so, I'm wondering if I got counterfeits instead - but at such a low price point, who'd ever bother?   I'm back on the 9927...

    IEM's similar to Monoprice 9927???

I've "come around" again to the ole 9927. For some reason, it now seems to fit just right and feels comfortable. Plus, I've started to notice more subtlety in the sound and range - tho' I haven't played or burned them since I last put them away.

[2021 Update] Venture Electronics (VE) Monk V2, Monk Plus & Monk Go: a $5 earbud that taking the world by storm!!!

I still haven't figured out how to get the earbud fins to fit with the foam covers over them!

Kogan 8GB MP4 - The Player That Came From Nowhere:

It doesn't seem to have any  of the form factor of the other Kogan clones.

    XDuoo X3 DSD 24Bit / 192KHz CS4398 Chip Lossless Music Player

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before in the preceding 250 pages :)   But, has anyone noticed a L/R channel reversal sometimes when FFing a track with the standard X3 firmware?

Reply to review by 'lad3' on item 'Tennmak Pro Dual Dynamic Driver Professional In-Ear Sport Detach Earphone Headphones with Microphone & Remote(black)'

Honestly, if SQ (on a budget) is your biggest priority, Monk+ is still King in my book. Tho if you can pick the Pro up for $19, like I did, you shouldn't regret it. But at home, in quiet and non-active listening situations, I'll still pick the Monks. They just seem to have the edge in sparkle...

These reviews triggered my "tipping point" too. Compared to my $5 Monk+, my $19 Tennmak Pro certainly has a lot more than 4x nicer build, fit, & isolation (not to mention the nice zip case and presentation box). . BUT, despite the entirely different style and dual-driver hype, the sound wasn't...

ROLAND CS-10EM - Binaural field recording

ROLAND CS-10EM & Tascom DR-05: a simple, direct, no-brainer budget combo.   I got spectacular, dynamic results the very first time recording low key music, street and nature sounds at 16/44 WAV files played back on my laptop, ipad, M90 (Kogan) and uploaded to Soundcloud (look for Lad3...

Review by 'Lad3' on item 'Basic M90'

This is pretty much the same weightless, rickety, tiny player apparently offered by Kogan, oRiver, Ritmix, etc. It comes decently boxed with a soft pouch, USB cable,  and nice looking (if unremarkable) IEMs with spare shirt clips. I was fortunate to get mine for $50 shipped to the US from...

Kogan 8GB MP4 - The Player That Came From Nowhere:

Got my $50 Basic M90 in from Asia. The incredibly weightless build and retro UI live up to the frustrations spoken here ...and the screen already has a washed- out line of pixels ;) But plug in my VE Monk 2 and tweak the bottom end and vocals by setting the EQ to the "Pop" without affecting the...

New IEMs from Monoprice - Hi-Fi Reflective Sound Technology Earphones

My vintage, close-out Senn CX200's finally started to peter out in one channel, so in a renewed urgency for budget hifi, I got these Reflectives (on sale for $3.99!!!) after reading their many superlatives.   I tried them (in order of increasing better results) on my zip clip, old HTC Beats...

    New Member Introductions thread

I'm just signing in for the first time as well. I remember buying the original Walkman from a guy at college. It totally blew my mind at the time (1981). Like all Sony innovations, the first one was built like a tank and had incredible sound. I just prefer something smaller and lighter now, and...
