I didn't bother to read all of the replies, but driving a car using open headphones completely ruins the listening experience... You need a quiet environment for headphone listening to be enjoyable, and thus only sealed headphones would work in a car, but that is NOT recommended for some obvious...

I finally bought Rostropovich's 1995 recording of the Bach cello suites... Wow! Amazing sound, wonderful interpretation that is more dynamic than most. Now I've got 5 versions of the suites, and perhaps my constant search for a better version has finally come to an end.

For what it's worth I generally prefer CD-players to soundcards. Sitting close to a computer can, IMO, ruin any listening session...

I use the Space. Even though I like the sound the drivers have been buggy, and if I bought a card today I'd probably go for the M-audio Revolution. The Space has a built-in pre-/headphone amplifier so it'll probably drive your HD580s quite well. I haven't really used the built in amp myself, though.
