Acoustic Research M2 Audiophile-Grade Hi-Res Portable
I have the Lexar 512MB MicroSD in my AR M2, with >20000 songs of DSD, FLAC and 320K MP3. Have had the AR M2 since its first year of launching and it still sounds amazing.- besati

FlaresPro/FlaresGold by Flare Audio
I am an audiophile and have used AR-M2 for 3 years. M2 drives the 150ohm RHA CL1 and low impedance CL2 happily. This is indeed HiFi sound and much closer to what I hear from my AudioNet room system and Wilson Benesh ACT speakers than any in ear DAP. No matter I am using the M2 or Hiby R6pro...- besati

FlaresPro/FlaresGold by Flare Audio
I know, but I did not buy any spare drivers. For this reason I would give the benefit of doubt to Flare for that "nozzle technology". The Flare Pro is different in sound to the R2's, most likely due to a different driver. It's RF is just too warm and too brassy for my taste, though the stage...- besati

That's is close to what I said and somebody thought I was heated. This year we see plenty better sounding beryllium, graphene, DLC and titanium drivers in new iems. Who knows if the coating is just a hype. It's so easy to upgrade the SQ by upgrading the driver. BTW, I have the R2A, S and Pro...- besati

Seeing that the quality of the plating outside is flawed, how do they ensure the inside is plated smoothly? With the latest flood of beryllium, diamond, graphene and DLC dynamic drivers, wouldn't it already suffice to improve SQ from the older generation of DD? All you need is a new shell to...- besati

HaHa, the SE phone out of the M2 sounds much better than balanced DAPs below US$1000 and plenty costing more than that. Judge with your ears.- besati

That's exactly my same experience here. I paid for the Lotoo PAW Gold twice as much I paid for the M2. Yet, the dynamics and swing of the former is nowhere near the M2.- besati

The M2 cannot be connected to the Mojo. Mojo is a DAC and only accepts digital signal input via the USB, coaxial or optical port. The M2 only outputs analogue signal via the 3.5mm LO socket. The USB port is only for charging and reading OTG external disk. Soundwise, both are warm sounding...- besati

The Fragrant Zither (TFZ) Reviews and Impressions Thread
I have order the SG1 from Massdrop and had enjoyed it for about a month. I have the RHA CL1 and I do not hear the problem of over piercing highs. Instead I hear extreme spacious and well focused vocals and positioning and layering of instruments. You need a desktop amplifier or a really good...- besati

The LPG is even more powerful than the M2, but soundwise is a different story. It's like drinking distilled water and old Whiskey in comparing both DAP. My LPG has been in the shelf after I had had my M2.- besati

You can download the free app Android File Transfer to allow the Mac to read the M2 via a USB cable. However as I said before, file transfer via a cable is extremely slow. Better just copy and paste onto the uSD card using a card reader.- besati

Easiest and fastest way is to put the uSD into a USB 3.0 card reader and click and drop the files into the card. Then put it back into the M2 and do a hardware reboot. Transfer via a cable is snail slow.- besati

Peter Frampton was like a meteor, shining bright when it swept through the sky, but soon was gone. Baby I love your way was a classic and listening to it really bring back a lot of memories. @Hawaiibadboy, we do have quite a few songs in common on our M2, Pink Floyd, ELO, Frampton, Bad fingers...- besati

A couple of months ago, the original sole agent of AR Hong Kong was dumping their stock of M2 at less than HK$5000. That was even cheaper than what I paid for the Taobao mail order. My friend bought one and added a 75 ohm resistor to it. He recently auditioned the Andromeda, and did not hear...- besati

To me, the M2 had sounded awesome and trumped all other TOTL DAP that I have heard since the first day I bought it. I was lucky that it didn't have the infamous noise issue with the Andromeda. The only let down was the half baked player and limited compatibility with some mp3 and flac files...- besati

You do not need balanced circuit if you know how to design real good HiFi hardware regardless of cost. Take FM Acoustic as an example, they mainly design in SE, and they are a brand that is highly highly regarded on the HiFi industry.- besati

OK. I asked twice for that comparison because I was tempted to have a taste of the latest hit wave of balanced output and had auditioned both the X7ii and DX200. However, I still think that AR-M2 SE is more superior in terms of dynamics and 3D soundstage. The M2 sounds better even in Tidal...- besati

The old player has bugs that prevent album art from read in some Flac files and all DSD files. There is no problem with compressed mp3 and m4a files. The new player can even read DSD iso files and the embedded album art as well. What is your problem with EQ on the Pro player? It seems to work...- besati

The player will only detect and register a song if it is properly tagged. MP3 Songs downloaded from the internet might not contain all the tags necessary for sorting. I have no problem with the player as I have edited in all the tags and album art with Mp3tag on the Mac. I am very pleased that...- besati
