The FiiO X1 Discussion and Help and Support Thread |192K/24B|100mW | LO | inline remote

I have, but I don't recommend modifying DAPs with Rockbox. Try to utilize manufactures firmware to keep your devices longevity.

If you want a unit that’s really going to produce a good sound stage in the FiiO family the X5 2nd Gen is the one you should go with. Yes, it's a $500 unit but you pay for what you get. Going cheap will turn to reselling and upgrading. I guarantee that.

JRiver Media Centre - Audiophile or Not?

It's quite interesting; I'm testing HQPlayer on Mac OS/X running a Korg DS-DAC100 and the sound stage is muffled, dry and bass driven. Audirvana Plus with DS-DAC100 performance is much clearer, warmer and vibrant. Im convinced software has a lot to do with your sound staging. As well, HQPlayer's...

Frozenhaze, every DAP is altered in its own way. There is a saying “You get what you pay for” and with lower end units that is just the case. Keep in mind, there are DAPs that can run you up to $1000+ and are unjustifiable, but with the right hardware (DAC) they do show the prices results.  This...

You go with what you can afford, understandable.  X1 is not a bad unit; I had an X1 at one time and then sold the device. It’s an entry level device which is good for beginners.

Looking for thoughts on JRiver Media Centre. What are you thoughts on the program (MAC OR PC) and would you consider it audiophile grade?

Agreed, but I can ensure you being on this form you will learn a lot instead of wasting your money on low-end products like the X1 and wondering why you did. There are better options out there to get a bang for your buck, but I see you will learn that at some point. Happy Audiophile!

Sounds like you adjusted them to your comfort and liking. Good job! The SR-80e are one of the best audiophile headphone units I've ever used. SR-225e are a step up but to be honest, the SR-80e are under priced.

Picked up a set of SR80e and based on the reviews I gathered quite a bit of positive feedback. Watched a few YouTube videos on the product and cant say the individuals who are reviewing the SR80e are very knowledgeable in audio hardware, as these headphones are more audiophile than expected. I...
