Just looked at the eBay link. I will double confirm those are ge 5670's for sure. And a very good price.

I would try some 5670's before buying WE396A's to test the flavour of the family. I use 5670's in my Valhalla and my speaker amp. 5670's are a superb tube for the money. YMMV.

I run mine as it comes from the source. I have never upsampled my audio. Sounds fine to me. Why try to cobble it up ? :beerchug:

Yep stock tubes really are great ! I have a bunch of different tubes for it. My favorite is 5670's (which require and adapter). JJ's are nice...bass punches really hard with a nice balance on mids and treble. Toshiba's have bass that goes earthquake low...not a huge amount of bass...but still...

I do agree. Get the stock one as well if you desire. But it does nothing really. Russian Tungsol is way better.

Tubes schiit sell are russian including the tungsol. This is the tube we are speaking of. An old tungsol would be made in the USA and cost 100$ or more and be a rediculous investment.

I bought one off amazon. Works flawlessly with my oppo and Sony blu-ray. Sacd layer sounds stunning in 88.2/24 pcm. Could be the mastering, could be the higher reslution. Pcm is going thru my mimby and bimby. Stunning wayyyyyy better than the built in dac!

Well.....Valhalla 2 should have plenty of power for them. Mjolnir 2 has about same amount of power as Valhalla 2 for 300 ohm HP. Mjolnir is a circlotron amp, so now you gotta chose between tube or circlotron. 2 different topologies with 2 different sounds. Both are good choices. .

Sacd has to be over hdmi as It needs to see copy protection that hdmi offers. My stripper cheats the protection some how.

I have the 83se and the 80. Sacd can only be output over hdmi digitally in dsd or pcm, Sacd cannot be output over coax/optical. I needed pcm from the hdmi. I do not have a dsd dac. Nor do I want one.

Tubes do tend to soften harshness (without robbing detail or sounding tubby....i don't have a warm fuzzy system....) I have found my Adele, hall and oats , Ozzy Osbourne and many others to sound less harsh with tube(s) . There is just some really Schiity harsh digital music out there. Newer...

I have both mimby and bimby. People say there is no discernable difference. I think the bimby does sound better.....very very slightly, not enough to justify it though. I think an upgrade is coming for bimby this year. Really only reason to buy a bimby is that it is upgradable and USB Gen 5...

I figured your tungsol was Russian as is mine. They really are excellent. I could live with mine forever with no regrets...it is that good. All my saga tubes were 35 $ or less. I can't buy into tubes that cost more than my equipment. With the Russian tungsol you aren't missing anything worth...
