    FiiO&JadeAudio Over-Ear Headphones Discussion & Impressions Thread

The fiio is basically trading soundstage size for wonderfully deep, very slightly elevated bass and a significantly lower cost.

Through the K7, I'm gonna see if the ifi go blu has enough juice for them tomorrow.

I've really been enjoying these, they suite a lot of genres and I'm understanding their staging now, impressive stuff!

They arrived! First impressions are that despite all the talk of bass, they aren't dark! Actually have quite a nice vibrant treble, though have been listening to the lcd 2c quite a bit recently so that may be influencing things. Guessing on a slight V shape for now. Quite an intimate...

The k7 is something like 600mw at 300ohms it will easily get everything out of the FT3.

When I get it, I'll poorly compare it to headphones in a completely different price range, likely running from a single dac/amp, testing just one set of pads and neither of you will know if you'd like it or not.

Don't worry, they can't hear you over their distortion.

    Grado Fan Club!

Absolutely it will translate to a cold and harsh sound if you have a preference for warm, consumer tunings. The point is, this isn't putting anything into the music to make it cold and harsh as the measurements state. Like listening to an hd800, which a lot of people hated for the longest time...

    Grado Fan Club!

I'd take issue with 'others focus on good sound quality'. It's more a case of they focus on lesser sound quality with higher distortion and roll off filters. Absolutely a warmer sound that people enjoy, but certainly not 'better sound quality' than a clean DAC which are a solved problem...

Which (wired) HiFi headphone for around 600-1500?

Good soundstage but closer to your ears? I'm not sure what you mean by this. You could try focal elegias, they are going quite cheap nowadays. Grados are a no because they're open. Hifimans are no because you won't want to take the few closed pairs they sell anywhere near a public place...

    Introducing the HIFIMAN HE-R9!

I can't believe these are so slept on, got one from their ebay store for £230 including shipping and so far its done nothing but impress me. I usually like neutral headphones but I wanted something fun for my lesser tastes in music on the side and yet I find myself reaching for them even for...

Closed-back audiophile headphones with bass SLAM?

I'm gonna throw the HE R9 in here as a suggestion. It can have mesmerising amounts of bass but doesn't sacrifice the rest of the sound nearly as much as some of the other picks here. It's not ALL sub bass like a biocellulose but it still moves a tonne of air and is more listenable imo.

Focal Elegia - what do you think?

Just put on the Dekoni Stellia pads bought from a fellow head fier and I am so glad they came up for sale! I tried oratorys EQ with the stock eligia pad and wasn't a fan of how that unique elegia sound just disappeared in favour of the usual harmon target response. Soundstage went out the...

    DROP + HIFIMAN HE-R7DX CLOSED-BACK LAUNCH

Got them on the way, I've been getting into closed backs recently and want to see how these do for the price. Looks like the headband will need to be bent to get them to seal properly.

Boards of Canada addict back on the market

I'd suggest a beyer, I love the T1 gen 2, large soundstage with great bass adding a decent bit of warmth. I'd say the t90 might be a bit too bright, though a dt 880/990 might be what you're looking for.   i'd suggest to stay away from planars for large soundstages, i've never really heard any...

How many pairs of headphones do you own?

Nice, I really want to get my hands on some vintage akgs. The monitor 10s do sound and look pretty good, I think based on looks my favourite would be my pioneer se l40, pioneer made some good looking 'phones! Soundwise it'd probably be my stax gamma pros because... Stax!
