beyerdynamic DT880 re-cable guide(in progress)
My mod as posted earlier using a Rean connector would permit a 4 wires connection. I suggest it would be very worthwhile to practice soldering to build confidence. It’s not difficult !- skilhead

Guitar-fi anyone?
Hmmm... Considering that you are preparing to spend thousands with them, I too am surprised at their attitude. To pay for the necessary parts etc. would of course be normal, but not to haggle about perhaps 2 hours work of their guitar tech. And giving "no guarantee" is in my frank opinion...- skilhead

Guitar-fi anyone?
Simple? ...well I guess that depends on your experience and nerves whether you want to start opening up your beautiful new axe. Certainly it needs no electronics trickery, just a steady hand for soldering the wires and changing to push-pull switched control knobs. Plenty of stuff on the web...- skilhead

Guitar-fi anyone?
Honeyburst. I guess it is fairly straightforward to add a coil tap, so I would let that sway my decision. Go first for the playability, then aesthetics... fix up and customise the electrics as you wish. I see a pickguard on both, whatś your point about that? And what are the ¨white rings¨...- skilhead

DIY Cable Gallery!!
ADAPTER FOR MUSIC ON THE MOVE The remaining cable of my set to combine with my DT880 and its 4-pin tiny XLR. This short cable enables more or less "wireless" listening from the clip-on ipod shuffle or it could even be used in combination with a simple bluetooth receiver! hope you liked the...- skilhead

DIY Cable Gallery!!
HANDY WITH A PC I wanted a compact cable for listening while sitting with my laptop, so a 90 degree jack was a good choice to keep out of the way of the mouse and other usb connectors all along the same side. The cable is " Van Damme 268-100-000 prograde classic xke super flexible " which true...- skilhead

DIY Cable Gallery!!
SAILING ROPE I used the bunch of wires from van damme tour grade classic XKE quad microphone cable 268-026-000 Including the bundled cord and paper wrap. The covering is from sailing rope, the sort used for controlling sails, having taken out it's soft white core.- skilhead

BOOTLACE AS CABLE SHEATH ! Since I was unable to obtain paracord at my local hardware stores I looked around for a substitute and hit on the idea of cannibalizing a bootlace of 1.4 m. long. Inside I found two strings, which I removed and that left space to insert loosely-twisted wires taken...- skilhead

beyerdynamic DT880 re-cable guide(in progress)
My primary objective was to allow me to switch cables with different lengths and jack styles (straight or 90 degree) to suit the particular use, so: short for carrying around wiith the phone, medium for sitting by the computer and long for TV/hifi. Not really possible to do before/after...- skilhead

Guitar-fi anyone?
Hi Arty, yes made from a fence post, old instrument box from the toolroom, brass bits from an old hinge, couple of leftover tuners from a scrapped 60s Rosetti guitar, curtain ring, piece of ash wood from old Morris car, plus 3 of my old teeth! There is a pickup hidden away underneath. Tuning...- skilhead

Guitar-fi anyone?
ehhh, could you clarify your comment about string tension being related to headstock angle ? I cannot understand why it would make a difference, because the string tension should be identical in order that the pitch of the string is the same (assuming same gauge strings and scale length)- skilhead

Good to Better to Best XLR Connectors
Why should the difference in conductivity of the pins be significant? ...after all they are very much shorter compared with the cable length and also very much thicker, so by far and away the biggest contributor to total cable resistance must be the wires themselves, surely?- skilhead

Leather pads on DT880 - need holes?
The conventional velour pads fitted to beyerdynamic DT880 have an array of holes on the inner part. I have obtained some handmade leather pads from ebay - they fit well and to my ears sound OK. But Iǘe heard it clamed that those original holes are there for the purpose of controlling sound...- skilhead

Realistic SA-102 as a headphone amplifier
That power level should be way enough. I would advise against removing the resistors, but in case you wish to increase the output, you could replace them with similar types having lower resistance.- skilhead

beyerdynamic DT880 re-cable guide(in progress)
I did a recable using a Rean tiny xlr 4-pin connector, succesfully fitted in thanks to Dremel work. Also note the retaining nut needed filing down across one flat in order to allow the driver to seat down correctly [/IMG]- skilhead
