Review by 'Murphity' on item 'Dan Clark Audio AEON Flow RT Closed'

I’m here today with a review of the Aeon Closed RT, purchased back in 2021 for $500 as my first experience with DCA headphones. I eventually used it for a 15% Club DCA discount on the $4k Expanse and $900 Noire, so I’ve certainly gotten my money’s worth from the Closed RT. No photos this time...

    SONY IER-Z1R

Welp, I've tried Spinfits, Sedna Earfit Crystals, HifiGo Divinus, Final E, and Spring tips, and none of them were quite as good as stock tips for me rip. Guess it's time to shell out for stock tips and cable.

Evolving the UM Reference: A New Chapter for the Mason Series—Mason Nuit Étoilée & Soleil Tombé

Even if they DID somehow spend millions upon millions for R&D, it would surely be better to sell it for a lower price and sell orders of magnitude more units. This seems quite short-sighted and exploitative from UM, gouging their most loyal customers and turning off everyone else.

@MusicalDoc8 , I've unfortunately only heard the LCD5 at shows and briefly at a store. Wish there were better places to demo near me... @plumpudding2 , I ran it mostly off of an iFi Gryphon, which I know isn't the best source out there, but the convenience of being able to sit on the couch...

The Drinking Fountain - Full-Size Headphone Discussion

As someone who's heard the Noires a good bit and owns the Closed RT (which I think are the same), I'll say that they're very different sounding. As you know, the X/RT is unbelievably bright and has pretty recessed bass if you don't use the thickest filter. But if you do, the details get pretty...

Review by 'Murphity' on item 'Dan Clark Audio (DCA) Expanse'

DCA Expanse Just over a year ago, I heard that Dan Clark Audio was releasing their newest flagship: the Expanse, an open version of the closed-back Stealth. I rather like my Aeon Closed RT, as well as the Stealth in stores, so I excitedly, and perhaps unwisely, bought a pair blind and hoped...

Dan Clark Audio E3 Review: Interview, Measurements, Impressions

On that note, any chance you'll switch from FedEx or allow shipping with UPS for a fee? With their whole "signature needed but not really, but also maybe?" and shoddy on-time performance, buying from you guys always makes me a tad nervous. That and how their warehouse is 30 miles away for me...

Reply to review by 'Murphity' on item 'Sennheiser IE 600'

@OneEyedHito my main issue is that the cable actively made the sound worse - breaking tip seal, microphonic, inconsistent due to the hooks changing shape. It'd be one thing if they had a normal connector, but no... That'd be too basic for Sennheiser. Was thinking full size cans next. Maybe the...

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.

I don't quite know the exact frequencies, since I don't have a mic to make measurements, but it was mostly the lower mids and middle(?) mids. I really do think that this is at least partially result of the tips I used making them even more treble-y (and perhaps bassier) than stock. Probably made...

I'm here to shill my review again, this time of the IE 600. I really wanted to like them, but those terrible stock accessories + treble spice is just a tragic combination. Kinda wild that Sennheiser has gone like a decade without fixing their cables and tips. Anyway, let me know what y'all...

Review by 'Murphity' on item 'Sennheiser IE 600'

IE 600 Here's the second of my reviews of my collection, the quite popular IE 600. I bought my pair at launch in early 2022, for the full MSRP of $800, as a more comfortable alternative to the IER-Z1R that I daily drove at the time. While comfort was certainly a massive improvement, there were a...

Wrote up a review on the IER-Z1R and was planning on writing up ones on the rest of my collection, so any thoughts would be appreciated. https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/sony-ier-z1r.23390/reviews#review-31795

No clue. I was under the impression that they were designed for specific models/nozzles rather than performance, but that's likely wrong. Also saw that Dunu is making ear tips now. Might be worth a try.

I personally had good luck with the Final Audio E Types and didn't end up trying many others. Moondrop Spring tips were too short. But I think the usual suspects would be a good starting point. SpinFit, Azla, Final wouldn't be bad as a starter collection.

Review by 'Murphity' on item 'SONY IER-Z1R'

I've owned the IER-Z1R for a couple years now, since 2021. At the time, I was looking for the step up from the Blessing 2 and these seemed a perfect fit. Not that they were similar in tonality, but past me didn't pay enough attention to notice that before buying. With headphone shops few and far...

IE600 at least (probably same with 900) need 3rd party tips and cable. The stock ones are absolutely atrocious. The tips are way too thin to ever seal properly if they're even slightly off from the size of your ear canal (which they always will be). And the cable ear hooks hurt the fit more than...

Review by 'Murphity' on item 'AKG K7XX'

The AKG K7XX's are very popular in this community, and while I can see why, I'm personally not a fan. (Pls no haterinos, it's just a personal opinion) Packaging: eh/10 As the K7XX's are a Massdrop exclusive, designed to be sold at a lower price, the packaging was nothing special. The headphones...

    Advice on Cables?

One of the OEM cables for my PSB M4U1s just broke, only outputting sound through the left side, and now I'm looking for a replacement. Fiio E18

Yeah. It's the same for most of us. When you stack it on your phone you'll get some interference, even if the phone is not the source. However, move it a little further away and it disappears. If you're desperate, try putting something between the phone and the E18 to use as shielding (tinfoil...

I just found signs of cracking on my pair... RIP. Time to go fill out that 2-year warranty. It was apparently fixed in most of the later iterations, so maybe I got an earlier one?
