Review by 'bigsojoe' on item 'Ray Samuels THE SHADOW'
bought from RSA directly. Ray is really nice and super helpful on the phone. I own 3 of his amps and he as let me use whatever I want as the serial # as long as it hasn't been taken - favorite athlete's jersey number, my initials, my favorite number... The Shadow is RIDICULOUSLY small...- bigsojoe

Portable Sources w/Digital Output Listing
I also had a lot of fun with the high-end Sony minidisc players, which could play compressed files loaded onto the disc. Some of them would do the copying (from your CD or the collection on your computer) on-board through digital inputs and outputs; in combination with a digital-out equipped...- bigsojoe

Zune (2gen) vs iPod (5.5gen)
If you really want SQ, look at an iMod... I notice a huge difference. BTW - I haven't heard the Triple-Fi but I got a great deal on a pair of Shure SE530 and man are they amazing. I've heard they are considered lighter in the bass, but I can't imagine who would think that.- bigsojoe

Do the Senn 595 sound better with an amp?
Strong agreement with last post. You can feed them straight off the XBox, but you will get stronger and bolder sound - not to mention better volume control - with just about any amp. Going XBox -> DAC (digital-to-analog converter)-> amp would be ideal, but if you don't already have an external...- bigsojoe

Trouble with GS 1000
I didn't have that issue, but I did experience something surprising (a $1000 pair of cans really shouldn't have any issues): the dye in the black pads seemed to bleed out a little. I would wear them for a while and when I took them off I would later notice black semi-circles on my face. I'm not...- bigsojoe

HELP! Tweaking Fatman iTube / HCT HMS-100 (removing tube cover)
With regard to the types of tubes it uses, I found this on Audio Advisor (-Audio Advisor "two great sounding 6N1 (ECC85) and 6E2 (EM87) tubes" So does anybody have any suggestions? I'm still very new to the tube world, but would love to try rolling and hearing a different type of sound. Thanks!- bigsojoe

Shanling headphone amplifier PH3000
I've had the Shanling 3000 in my system for several months now and continue to love it. Sound is awesome and they power everything I've got with ease. Price was definitely right (I got an unused demo from Moon Audio at a steal) and the feature set is outstanding... two matched headphone jacks...- bigsojoe

HELP! Tweaking Fatman iTube / HCT HMS-100 (removing tube cover)
Moon Audio says the Shanling uses "6N16B" tubes... I wasn't able to find these on the sites you provided me (though thanks again for sending me the link - much appreciated). Is anyone familiar with these, or what types of replacements I could try? Thanks again! Soren- bigsojoe

I have the HMS-100 (seemed like a good value as I'm pretty sure it's the same as the Fatman) and I want to remove the tube cover without breaking it - is there a trick to this? I can't tell if it's just supposed to snap off or if I need to use tools. Any suggestions from fellow owners (or anyone...- bigsojoe

Seattle Head-Fi Meet...3.22.08
I just ordered a brand-spanking-new 32 GB iPod Touch from Apple's Web site... I'm amped about it as I'm going to Mexico in about 2 weeks.
