Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion
Yes that is the cable that comes with it. I can say that I have not had my HE-400i's that long but my cord is starting to go out. I am not a fan of the cord for many reasons a) the right angle plug b) very very short c) very still and swings around a lot- CSdread

Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion
So I just got a nice Russian 6n6p tube that i put in my Project Starlight fed from a Emotiva DC-1. WOW this tube with the HE-400i is really really special. It really engages the low end and brings a nice presence. They are still not as tight and in control as the HE-560 but a HUGE difference...- CSdread

That is a good point on all fronts about price and about it all. And yes I do consider the 400i to be warm, but not as warm as the PM-2- CSdread

Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion
I would agree that the 2 downfalls of the HE-400i is a) not a detail monster b) low end can be a bit loose, not bleeding per se, but just not in perfect control with tightness and speed. Though I got my pair for $299 on sale last winter holiday season. I can say that not many other headphones in...- CSdread

Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion
Know that i listen very loud, the low end respond is only good when you get loud. This is the same for most magnetic planer headphones. I think if you are a bass head then the HE-560 which i consider very balanced is not for you. Have you thought about the Fostex X Massdrop?- CSdread

Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion
The thing about the mod is that you have to buy the PM-2 for 700 and then the mod is another 700 putting it at 1400 or if you want to buy the modification and the headphones directly for 1400. That is a lot of money to spend on a modified headphone. I did get to hear these modified headphones at...- CSdread

Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion
So I am trying the OPPO PM-2 right now from the Demo Program here at head-fi and I have to tell you that I like my HE-400i better. I find the PM-2 to be way way way to rolled off on the high end, and the warm mids really flood me. But the biggest thing i did not like about it was that I never...- CSdread

I am running my HE-400i's with a Project Starlight running the default OpAmps and a RCA Cleartop 12ua7 tube. I feed that either from a Emotiva Stealth DC-1 or my Schiit Fulla. The tube is huge game changer for me. Sounds amazing.- CSdread

Review: 1964 Ears V3 triple driver custom IEM (updated 10/24/12)
I would say just get it re-shelled. The odds of it fitting right are slim to none. And an Ok fit will mean a serious degradation in the sound. These things require a seal to bring the full spectrum of sound to your ear drums. For that price with the re-she'll it really should not be expensive...- CSdread

Review: 1964 Ears V3 triple driver custom IEM (updated 10/24/12)
thank you for the reply. I ware them for longer periods of time than a few hours. which is why i am wondering if the fit issues are just actual outer ear fatigue or if they have a fit issue in one spot. If the fit is the case then i will refit them for sure. If it is just the nature of customs...- CSdread

Review: 1964 Ears V3 triple driver custom IEM (updated 10/24/12)
So since these are my first CIEM i have a question about fit. I am still in my refit window. My right ear seems perfect, very little sore on the ear itself and i can barley tell they are in my ear at all. The left ear i have to twist a bit farther to get it to seal and when i do the back part of...- CSdread

Review: 1964 Ears V3 triple driver custom IEM (updated 10/24/12)
Got my V3s after about 4 weeks of build time. I am so stoked on them, they sound great. It is nice to have something so musical in my collection of listening tools. Most of my gear is reference but these bring out the life in the low end and are just beautiful. My only regret is not going even...- CSdread

CIEM fit questions
I just got my first pair (1964 Ears V3). I as well had this problem. I ware mine for well over 3 or 4 hours a day sometimes. I have noticed that the ear canal irritation has gone away but I am finding some irritation on the funnel part of my ear. That could just be from wearing them to long...- CSdread

Fulla (by) Schiit - News, photos, thoughts, impressions, etc.
It sure does sound good together but it does not compare to my Emotiva Stealth DC-1 > Project Starlight with a Clear Top RCA 12au7 tube. That is my favorite way to listen to my 400i for sure. But the Fulla with the IEM sounds amazing, better than that rig.- CSdread

Fulla (by) Schiit - News, photos, thoughts, impressions, etc.
I have been using my Fulla with my HE-400i primary but I just got my first pair of IEMs. I have always enjoyed the Fulla but it was relegated to portable need only as I have a desktop DAC and Project Starlight amp but with the IEMs this DAC/Amp really shines for me. I have only really listened...- CSdread

Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC
No above you can read that it is a bad idea to connect headphones to the XLR out. Also the 1/8" headphone jacks on the front are both single ended, not balanced. The XLR should be piped into to something like a Liquid Carbon or any other balanced amp. You can configure if the line outs are fixed...- CSdread

Albuquerque April 2016 meet impressions
I had so much fun at our first meet up. It was nice to see so many do-it-yourselfers. I think my favorite blow-my-mind sound was when the Stax and the home built amp were paired with the Mojo Audio R2R DAC and high end power supply. The sound was amazing and almost brought tears to my ears...- CSdread

Albuquerque, New Mexico meet is on! April 30, 2016
Most excellent, I want to build an R2R DAC at some point, even the DIY is still expensive. Though I will never get close to that close-form filter on the Yiggy. Glad other DIY folks are coming to the meet up. I only have a Project Starlight to share so far on my DIY path. Looking to maybe build...- CSdread
