@Dobrescu George I never got the DJ's, I instead upgraded my Sig Pro to balanced by means of Moon Audio. The Sig Pro is perfectly capable of powerful bass - it just needs a little bit of EQ tweaking. I love the Sig Pro, I have let other headphones collect dust.

Happy as a Pig in Schiit: Introducing Modi Multibit

I play a 1 hr long ocean wave track at night on repeat as a household sound machine (centrally located). My previous D/S dacs sounded like static fuzz. Modi Multibit is entirely different, I urge owners to try ocean sounds. It is realistic as if I am camping at the beach. Amazing little workhorse!

Happy as a Pig in Schiit: Introducing Modi Multibit

Yes, it is a bold statement but I have personally always been disappointed by ESS Sabre 9018 DACs (with exception of exaSound e22 mkii). Always sounds digital to me, didn't live up to hype. This Mobit sounds warmer and more lifelike and found a sweet spot with my CM1 speakers. CM1's have the...

Happy as a Pig in Schiit: Introducing Modi Multibit

I have had the Modi Multibit for 5 days now and have put it through the gamut. I give it an A. Total winner. Using it in a 2.1 "parlor" setup, fed by a Google Cast Audio, up through a Temple Bantam One, out a pair of B&W CM1's and matching subwoofer. These speakers have not sounded so eerily...

+1 for Moby.   Though, I like the spelling Mobi. Makes me want to add a 'T' to finish off the bit in multibit: Mobit

Happy as a Pig in Schiit: Introducing Modi Multibit

Today, I visited schiit.com to pull the trigger on a Modi 2 Uber for my 2ch TV setup. I did not see the multibit announcement.   To my delight, Modi Multibit was an option on the Modi 2 product page! Please, take my Schiitty $100 in exchange for multibit glory.   I'm spoiled by the...

    Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions

Reporting in with thermal dissipation strategy. Two steps. Plus a bonus step.   1) Provide airflow under the unit. I'm using Herbie's Big Tall Tenderfoot - $50 for three, $66 for four.   2) Lift tubes out of the chassis. I've recently obtained a pair of Tubemonger NOVIB Socket Savers - $56...

Definitely the balanced front output. Single ended front output has 1/4th the power. 4-pin XLR to speaker cables (4 pin XLR is a left channel red/black and a right channel red/black).

Worth noting the MJ2 consumes 7 less watts using LISST and doesn't get as hot. If you give the MJ2 a "lift" so more air moves underneath, it will be even cooler. Finally, if you have a ceiling fan or any kind of air circulation, it stays cool to the touch. If you want a simple passive preamp...

    Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions

Tubes last years and can be inexpensive if you buy good quality new stock. Rare tubes are not cheap but for every day PC audio with the magic of tubes, even one year of life from a set of tubes is a good deal. I've played with going direct from DAC to amp/speakers and cutting out the MJ2, but...

    Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions

If your DAC has an additional output, you could use a passive preamp, something as simple as the Schiit Sys, between the DAC and the powered speakers. This can be used as a bypass when you don't want to run it through the MJ2 hardware and tubes. That said, I love using speakers with the MJ2...

Practicing Safe Sound: Hardware and Software Pitfalls

I experienced a painful, loud mess of digital noise once. Let me explain the specific occurrence as it can probably be reproduced.   Hardware: Gungnir Multibit, Mjolnir 2 Software: OSX, JRiver for Mac, Amarra for Tidal   When a piece of audio playback software is in Exclusive Mode, it...

I don't mind this because occasionally I use dual subs with headphones for the body vibration effect. It helps. Actually, I prefer devices that don't mute in various situations, but rather output everything all the time and let me figure out how to handle it.

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

You won't get any volume controls with a Schiit DAC. That's good, you want to do volume control in the analog stage (headphone amp potentiometer). What you can do, if available as a feature, is give an audio application exclusive access to the DAC so that Apple's CoreAudio isn't trying to mix...

An additional benefit of XLR is one less circuit in the signal path, that is, the summing circuit on the RCA connectors. MJ2 is fully balanced, take advantage of it.

    Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions

I am in consensus that the Mjolnir 2 balanced headphone output is a revelation. That said, I enjoy the SE headphone out just the same. It might not be my "favorite son," but it's still my child, and I love it. With Mjolnir 2, you get so much more flexibility than the Asgard 2. Of course...

    Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions

I would highly recommend springing for the Mjolnir 2. For three main reasons.   1. Gumby/MJ2 is a beautiful looking and sounding stack, one which Jason Stoddard himself uses in lieu of Ygg/Rag stack.   2. Gumby excels with its balanced outputs. MJ2 is fully balanced for a balanced path...

    Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions

Little known fact but the Mjolnir 2 is also an amazing sounding speaker amp. It has ridiculous power for a headphone amp.    Use an adapter consisting of 4-pin XLR on one end to speaker wires on the other and the MJ2 transforms into a mini Ragnarok. Enjoy the same magical sound the MJ2...

If you would like more bass and more overall authority from the Sig Pro, the kind folks at Moon Audio do a Sig Pro upgrade to soldered silver wire utilizing a furutech 4-pin balanced XLR connector. Total transformation of the headphones. Bass definitely got the boost it needed.

    Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions

I'd like to contribute a MJ2 finding of mine.   Using a set of 4 "Big Tall Tenderfoot" isolation feet, I have lowered the chassis and volume knob temperature of my MJ2.   http://herbiesaudiolab.net/compfeet.htm   My probably-correct guess is that the larger space underneath the MJ2 allows...

Although I aim to listen to lossless only, I have allowed myself to listen to soundcloud and youtube when friends give me links and it is my only listening option. Also, Spotify when Tidal servers are janky. I agree that the Yag does a fantastic job with MP3. When the original quality is super...

I have had Yaggy over a month now. It is at my desktop where I am at the computer all day. I have a near field speaker setup (with dual subs) with MJ2 as preamp. Also have Ultrasone Sig Pro that are being upgraded to hard wired balanced by Moon Audio at this moment. It is a daily joy to hear...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

I am a bit superstitious/paranoid and won't put anything lossy through the Yggdrasil to keep it pure.   How about a playlist of ripped CDs containing your favorite music? Temper that beast with the essence of you.
