I've not really got anything more to say, but I'm not a headphone hobbyist. I looked for some excellent, comfortable and accurate headphones that were well priced that I could use all day at my desk. I found them. Now I'm spending all my time using them instead. They are superb.

Another thing I've noticed is that I have never heard the very high overtones produced by a good organ recording so clearly as I have with these headphones. Also, with more adventurous stops choices, you can pick out some really interesting and weird timbres.

I've been toying with Oratory's eq profile for the NDH 30s today, and I like it very much. Brings a little more brilliance to Kevin Bowyer's traversal of Bach's organ works, which are in heavy rotation at the moment.

Poll: How long did your last headphones/earbuds last?

After a rather disastrous experience with some Blue MoFis in 2017, if I recall correctly, which disintegrated, I purchased some Fidelio X2s in the summer of 2019 which are still in superb condition, and some Fiio FH5 IEMs in 2020 which are also still in perfect condition. I have now upgraded to...

No, the connector to the headphones, 20 cm or so of cable, then a female 3.5 jack. Then I can take any standard 3.5 to 3.5 audio cable and plug it from the source to the cable described. Even if it was, 79 Euros for a short cable is an utter piss take. I love the headphones, but they should...

I really wish I could get a really short cable that terminates in a standard female 3.5 jack so I could easily switch headphones while using one standard cable.

Anyone here experimented with EQ with the NDH 30s at all?

I haven't had the pleasure of 80s Fall on them yet, we were covering the last few albums in the show so it was Sublingual Tablet and New Facts Emerge, which I really enjoyed revisiting if you haven't heard them. Very different to Hex, obviously, but Smithy had bile to spare even at the end...

    Neumann NDH 30

NDH 30s arrived yesterday and I've been spending some hours with them. Mightily impressed so far. I asked about them here a month or two back, and I am pleased to say they seem to be ticking all the boxes. I am not a hobbyist audiophile (nothing against anyone who follows that path), and...

My NDH 30's will be arriving tomorrow, looking forward to giving them a try.

As an amateur recorder player, soprano to bass, I can empathise with that. Bach wrote some wonderful flute work, and recorder work too. Did you ever take a look at Telemann? His Fantasias for solo flute are incredibly fun to play.

Thanks for the really detailed response, very helpful!

Thank you all for your comments, it sounds to me like it's a done deal. Just a case of waiting for the remaining funds before I pull the trigger. erics75, I also listen to a fair amount of rock and metal music, and grew up as a bit of a metal head/punk, teaching myself to play the guitar along...

I find that the X2s are overall enjoyable to listen to, but I find the treble region problematic at times, and the peaks and troughs in the treble make them a little bit of a two headed monster, sounding somewhat dull and somewhat sharp at times. I also would very much prefer more bass...

I have a few questions, if anyone would be so kind as to answer them. I've been using a pair of Fidelio X2s and some Fiio FH5 iems for a number of years now with pleasure, and I have been saving money with a view to buying a high quality set of open backs that will last for the foreseeable...

FiiO FH5 - Quad Driver Hybrid In-Ear Monitors || Knowles Balanced Armature Drivers

I'm just relieved that they suit my ears well, considering the problems some people have had getting the fit right. I just wanted a 'buy once and forget about it' solution for some closed back earphones for when the missus is watching TV and open backs cause us both to be disturbed. I don't want...

FiiO FH5 - Quad Driver Hybrid In-Ear Monitors || Knowles Balanced Armature Drivers

Took delivery of a pair of these this afternoon, and I'm pleased on first impressions. I've never used IEMs before, having exclusively used full sized headphones over the last few years with the exception of some Monks when I didn't want the weight of them. I jumped immediately to the double...

Classical music discussion, what do you like?

I've recently gone on a bit of a Classical music bender. I got the urge to listen to Ligeti, who I hadn't listened to for a while, worked through his entire oeuvre then got stuck listening to his String Quartets on repeat. As a result I started searching for other quartets, and now I'm...

Good isolation headphones for about £200, closed back or IEM

After doing some reading, I'm thinking about going for the Fiio FH5. The Etymotics look too risky for me comfort wise. The Audiosense T800 looks good, but I prefer not to order from China directly with the complications that can arise if they are faulty, and I can get the FH5s from Amazon so...

Good isolation headphones for about £200, closed back or IEM

I am also open to the option of IEMs if they isolate well and can give me good sound for the budget.

Good isolation headphones for about £200, closed back or IEM

My current setup is Fiio 10K paired with some Fidelio X2s using my computer as a source, and I'm very happy with it. Unfortunately, they aren't always appropriate due to being open backed, so I would like an alternative closed back option with good isolation to save my wife from music, and me...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

I imagine you'd see a lot of returns on any open back headphones with some hype when it's on sale. I can see a lot of impulse purchases followed by regret when the person realises they can't use it outside. As for issues, mine have none at all and have the most recent markings on the headband.

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

I just checked mine now, and mine have removable earpads and have MMD Holdings printed on the inside of the inner headband on the left. I presume that this is the name of the manufacturer after Gibson sold them on. Just to be sure cactus_farmer, you are simply pulling the earpad off from the...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Just added some X2'HR's to my collection thanks to the Amazon sale. Pleasantly surprised by them on first impressions, and adapting quickly to the open back feeling and the differences in detail, top end and soundstage compared to my MoFis. I think we'll get along nicely.
