I am not sure to be honest. Don’t expect the Red will do conversion from PCM to DSD or visa versa. DSD Native or DoP I understand but PCM is unclear for me.

This is how it works. The USB input is only active when the input is selected on the May. When it is not selected, it is basically turned off. When it is turned off, the Red won’t see it.

I compared the Red with dmp-a8 and Red is not brighter, not at all, it is the opposite in my comparison. The Red is more relaxed which makes it a good fit with my May.

Yes, you tried the RCA spdif output of the RED, I did not read carefully. Have you tried the RED in DDC mode? Do you still have this issue?

It is wonderful, I have been using pcm1704 dac’s before myself for many years. The Holo Audio May was the first convincing me there is a next level 😊
