Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
You're looking at the wrong statistic; low-sensitivity planars want more current over raw wattage. MJ3 has a power supply more akin to that from a speaker amp than one for headphones; current is not a problem. Few planars are harder to drive than the HE-6 and MJ3 drives those quite well so long...- TazedMarquis

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
As a new owner myself, I don't think you'll have too many issues with power. Right now I'm running my modded HE-6 6-screw in SE Class A mode, high gain, no feedback via the balanced XLR output, volume knob is around 1:30, and these most-notoriously power hungry of cans are sounding better...- TazedMarquis

The headphone output is always activated, even when the preamp out is engaged. Yes, the volume knob adjusts the preamp volume, as does the gain switch.- TazedMarquis

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship
Glad you ended up not selling yours. I've been through the same dilemma myself a few times with mine, and each time I couldn't manage to let them go. I honestly think that my Ori are the perfect compliment to my HD800S, and between these two pairs of headphones, I have no need of another set of...- TazedMarquis

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)
Recently picked up a used Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr. transformer-coupled tube amplifier to better compliment my HD800S after using the THX 789 for the past year or so. Thankfully the hum issue that plagued the initial run was not present in my unit, and the improvement in the soundstage --...- TazedMarquis

Senn HD-800S Help me choose a full size amp
I heartily second this, OP. I live in the SFV and traveled to The Source AV this past summer to test out equipment and headphones for an upgrade. I was most interested in the ZMF dynamics (which I believe they now no longer carry, sadly) and after a couple of hours ended up walking away with an...- TazedMarquis

Why Aren't the Sony 7550 as popular as the EX1000?
I've had the MDR-7550 for a little over a year now and I'm still infatuated with them. My musical tastes pretty much run the gamut and their neutral signature is almost perfect. Bass is deep and tight, though somewhat lacking slam; mids are clear; highs are present and detailed but not...- TazedMarquis

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship
RE: That planar bass, I recently hooked up my TV's RCA output to my THX 789 for late night viewing (I share an apartment and subwoofer after midnight is a no-go). At first I was using my HD800S for the apparent headstage, but explosions were just too weak. Fortunately the Ori was only a few feet...- TazedMarquis

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Very cool! Interested in the results of the multibit vs DS face-off, and also, aving heard so much about them, I'd love to try the R and the SR1a. Hopefully I can make it!- TazedMarquis

Amazon Music Lossless Tier
Considering the three-month free trial and Prime member discount, decided to give this a try. Definitely an improvement over Spotify for me, never bought into Tidal so can't compare. Hopefully they'll add bit-perfect playback to the software soon.- TazedMarquis

Schiit Audio Bifrost 2
I believe he was saying that a potential "Gungnir 2" should continue to utilize both a higher quality of DAC chip over the Bifrost 2 as well as use a discrete balanced output stage, while Bifrost 2 uses opamps due to space limitations in the chassis, to keep its status over the new Bifrost.- TazedMarquis

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship
The Aeolus was the ZMF dynamic that most interested me when I auditioned them. Unfortunately I didn't have my Ori with me to do a direct comparison. That will probably be my next step for a headphone upgrade, but it will probably be a while since I just upgraded my DAC.- TazedMarquis

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)
I've owned my HD800S for a little over two months now. Most of my library is symphonic music and my main headphone for several years was the HD650, which has a nice warm tonality that some say is too dark for classical music but I thought made the music rich and involving. A couple of short...- TazedMarquis

FLAC?
I agree from my own experience that it gets very difficult to differentiate lossy from lossless once you hit 192kbps MP3 (and even lower bitrates with more efficient codecs), but I always rip my CDs to FLAC for archival purposes. I also think the "space is at a premium" argument doesn't hold as...- TazedMarquis

Schiit Audio Bifrost 2
Upgraded from a Modi Multibit being fed with Eitr (due to the somewhat luckluster USB implementation on the Modi) because I'd been curious to do a balanced connection into my THX AAA 789 amplifier. Switching back and forth, noticing increased bass slam and blacker background with Bifrost 2. Just...- TazedMarquis

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship
Hadn't been listening to my Cherry Oris much lately since getting my HD800S, but since upgrading my DAC to the Bifrost 2 and noticing it's much improved bass over my Modi Multibit, I figured it was again time to give the Oris a workout. Man, do they still kick! Still think they hold their own...- TazedMarquis

Best Video Game Soundtracks
My personal belief is that Final Fantasy VI has the greatest game soundtrack of all-time, and the ending track is an outstanding example as to why: ALL of the character themes are fantastic. The "Ending Theme," which encapulates all of them in a mammoth 21-minute-long medley, always brings a...- TazedMarquis
