I know what you mean. Thing is, normal people simply don't know about fake cards. They find out the hard way, like you and I. Obvious fakes - yeah, and those 256GB SDHC cards. Haha! The SDHC spec doesn't go beyond 32GB! I have bought second-hard cards from ebay with some success but you have...- zedhed

All "Classics" were designated A1238. You will need to find the actual model number. Enter your serial number here : https://checkcoverage.apple.com/gb/en/ Or here : https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/ A 6th gen iPod Classic (model numbers MB029, MB147, MB145 and MB150) can only...- zedhed

Sounds all so familiar! I snapped one shut only to realise I'd forgotten to connect the battery. Reopening a newly refurbished iPod is soooo depressing. I've found having a range of tools helps. I might use 3 or 4 thin blade pry tools on one iPod. Plastic opening tools help but have a short...- zedhed

Ebay and AliExpress sellers are selling red 5th gen fronts. It's a nice deep red but a little translucent (the LCD backlight shows through). The coloured 6th gen fronts that you can get now are great! Nicely machined, too. The clickwheel is a nice close fit, like the original. And like you...- zedhed

Get a thin flat blade screwdriver under the orangey stuff (Kapton tape?) and carefully lift. It seems to be merely stuck down. The metal dome will come with it. This is what gives the button its "clicky" feel. When depressed it makes contact to the logic board beneath it. In my photo, the...- zedhed

It could be the CF-SD adapter and/or the 8GB SD card. I've got a CF-SD adpapter that just won't work in an iPod. Works fine in a card reader, though. You'd probably be better off by getting a cheap CF card and use that directly in the IDE adapter. Having said that, I have found that not all CF...- zedhed

iflash quad is slightly thinner meaning you can just about squeeze a larger capacity battery into your 7.5g iPod but you'll have to look around for the right sized battery. Sounds like you've already found it. Being able to take 4 micro SDXC obviously means you've got more room for expansion in...- zedhed

The HDD with Reallocs and Pending Sectors means it is failing and may be why it's slow to show and sync. I test a HDD by doing a full-format, fill it to capacity (by using the iPod as an external drive rather than syncing music with iTunes), then copy it all back to the computer. Assuming no IO...- zedhed

Has anyone added a large capacity battery to a 4th gen iPod? I recently got hold of a 40gb version with quite a deep rear plate so looks like there should be room for a larger battery. I've already replaced the HDD with a cheapo flash card adapter although I might invest in a Tarkan iFlash...- zedhed

Anyone know what this file does within the iPod's file structure (stock firmware)? iTunesControl It's size seems to relate to the capacity of the iPod, even just after a restore i.e. empty. So, in my tera-Pod it's 945MB. In my 256GB pod it's over 200MB. Just wondered whether the size of this...- zedhed

Possibly a problem with the SDXC card. Try checking it in a card reader attached to a computer. Run something like h2testw to check reading and writing to the entire memory card. Or a corrupt or incompatible music file.- zedhed

Hi there I suspect it's either the CF-SD adapter or the CF-ZIF adapter (or both!). I have a several CF-SD adapters that look similar to yours (Googling the description) and have used them ok with SDXC cards. For info, I have a Qumox microSD to CF adapter but it does not work in an ipod but...- zedhed

Use Class 10. I think most modern, large capacity cards are at least Class 10 anyway. Also, check here : https://www.iflash.xyz/store/iflash-solo/#tab-sd-cards- zedhed

If you use any one of Tarkan's iFlash adapters you will be fine. I have used his single and double SDXC adapters and his quad microSDXC adapter with no problems. Just make sure you buy your SD cards from reliable sellers, not from eBay.- zedhed

If I've understood your question, then yes, your 7th gen iPod classic will work with a 256gb or 512gb SDXC card and a Tarkan adapter using the original Apple firmware. "7th gen" means model numbers MC293 or MC297.- zedhed

If this is your first iPod mod then I'd keep it simple - just restore in iTunes. Experiment a bit. If you run into problems with storing 10,000s of songs then consider Rockbox.- zedhed

Well, it ran for 2 days - actually 49 hours - playing mp3 (mixed bitrates) with volume at approx 50%. Didn't touch the controls much so the backlight wasn't on. I have another iPod mod with a different large capacity battery and I noted ages ago that I got 40 hours. Not exactly stellar stuff.- zedhed
